link These are just a little too big for wargaming… and a wee bit costly (about $100 USD each), but they point the way towards where 3D printing is taking the collectables industry, including wargaming… link Let's see what happens with this kind of tech in a few years time… P.S. : Getting really quite… annoyed… with this lockfile nonsense. |

If they print like that, that's amazing. But IP issues… |

It seems they may be teaming up with CBS, the copyright owner so they may even be legit. |

I'd love to see 28mm figures. Full color. See what the price point is there. |

I better get on the stick and sell all my poorly painted ones now. |

Maybe they can be used for large-scale gaming. I remember reading about someone playing a Full Thrust game on his lawn. |

Just need a bigger gaming table. |

Very cool but they still have a ways to go. If you click on the middle picture at the bottom of the second link to get a close up the print resolution is a bit rough. |

"Wee bit costly" is a serious understatement, at least from my frame of reference. |

They 3d printed a Colt 1911 pistol (laser-sintering type printer). Made all the parts but the springs with the printer. Then they ran the costs of machine time and discovered that it was about 10x more expensive than carving one out of a block of stainless steel. Roughly $11,000 USD for the 3d printed one, compared to maybe $1,100 USD for a nice Colt-branded one. We're not there for minis yet. |
