More than 350 years ago, thousands of Scottish soldiers were captured during the English Civil War by the controversial British leader Oliver Cromwell. Many were kept as prisoners and were buried in mass graves when they died of disease and starvation.

Now, some of those soldiers will finally receive a more respectful resting place near Durham University, in northeast England, where the mass graves were found. Once research on the remains is complete, the soldiers will be reburied in a nearby cemetery in Durham, university officials announced in late August…

Very interesting Bill.

I wonder what sort of information they are going to look for, maybe serious trauma reflected in the bones and rough geographic location from the isotope levels? An age profile would be sort of interesting too. Wonder if they found much in the way of clothing or artefacts?

I guess wait for 2017.

I'm going to make sure a Scottish piper friend of mine, who regularly visits Durham (got a degree from that university), knows about this and so can go play a proper lament there sometime.
