Hello TMPers! In my new position as Editor of Miniature Wargames Magazine, I'm always open to new articles and other contributions from gamers. These include photographs, reviews, articles and so forth. We would also welcome dates of upcoming events to add to our diary on a month by month basis. The magazine has new sections added with increased content and aims to be a very broad appeal magazine that reflects the entire miniature gaming hobby: lots added but nothing taken away! If you'd like to know more, please contact me at: Miniaturewargames(at)warnersgroup(dot)co(dot)uk John Treadaway Editor of Miniature Wargames Magazine |

So what is the word count that you need? I have a large number of articles in various stages of completion. We used to publish Time Portal passages before I had open heart surgery several years ago. Rudy Scott Nelson |
John Treadaway | 13 Sep 2016 3:36 a.m. PST |
Rudy – pieces can be of varying lengths, to be honest: some pieces are short, some longer ones can be split. You could aim for 2000 words but that's a guideline only. What I need are articles with either illustration, good quality photography or similar to accompany it. I can always find suitable photos (well, usually!) and redraw maps, but it takes a bit more time, of course. Oh, and people that send me articles with illustrations and photos that they have 'foumd' on the internet need to look up copyright laws before they submit anything! John Treadaway |

Thanks for the guideline . I will send you an email to see if the email will work. |

Does MWM cover fantasy and science fiction games, or is it only for historical games? |

Best of luck in the new role… I have a thought for an article and will drop you a line… |

Does MWM cover fantasy and science fiction games, or is it only for historical games? Everything is covered in MW: historical and non-historical. So yes, including F&SF! John T |

Are historical articles welcomed? |
Volleyfire | 19 Sep 2016 8:56 a.m. PST |
And will there still be a monthly competition? |
John Treadaway | 21 Sep 2016 10:06 a.m. PST |
Andrew Everything is covered in MW: historical and non-historical Why would historical articles not be welcome? The very large majority of the magazine – more than the current issue – will be (for want of a better term) "historical articles". I will still need a shed load of good articles on historical gaming projects with nice illustration. Competition? Not sure about that for the mext issue! John Treadaway |
normsmith | 23 Sep 2016 12:04 a.m. PST |
Just to be clear – what is meant by historical articles? I think Andrew may have been asking the question from a historian perspective. I want wargame content, there are plenty of other places that I can go for my history. Some (please read as 'hardly any') historical background to a wargaming article is one thing, but pure historical articles!!!!! Until very recently, I have felt that your competitor, Wargames Illustrated have been too historical article based and even now they are still tethered to that ethos in several regards and for me it puts them in third place as to my favoured magazines (I buy all three each month, so am entitled to that view) From a wargamers perspective, the defunct Practical Wargamer was a 'real' wargamers mag and in my humble opinion, Miniature Wargames followed in a similar ilk, that was it's strength (to me at least). I really hope it stays focussed on wargaming . |

So write something for them Normsmith. |
John Treadaway | 23 Sep 2016 6:40 a.m. PST |
From my perspective, Miniature Wargames is magazine that focuses specifically on articles about wargaming with miniatures. Sure, articles could/should – and usually do – include a potted historical context or background but, ultimately, the articles (historical and non-historical) have to have some wargaming relevant content. As you said, Normsmith, unless it's – say – an interview with a gaming company or gamer with something pertinent to enlighten the wargaming community with – historical only articles can be gleaned from alternative publications. From my point of view Historical articles also includes ones all about where you went on your holidays and some photos of things of 'historic' importance, all of which I can find on the internet or in books. |

What's the status of partnership with Battlegames? |
battleeditor | 25 Sep 2016 4:18 p.m. PST |
There is no partnership with Battlegames. The name has been dropped by Warners and I am currently considering its future. I never stopped using the name for my Twitter and Facebook accounts. Henry Formerly owner/editor of Battlegames |

Yep. Me too. My guess is that he's sorting a variety of things out related not only to the change in editors (and work load) but likely in any changes in direction -- for example, the sci-fi extra section, or perhaps any redesign. When I was senior editor at Personal Computing (at the time, 550,000+ circulation), we went through a redesign and although I was on the editorial side, not art side, it took a while and some time from all departments as a redesign allowed everyone to add input. Give him some time. I'm sure he probably divided the e-mails into different folders and will get to them when the initial rush to get an issue or two under his belt is over. |
