Since reading Declan Powers' book some few years back, I've been planning to bring Jadotville to the 15mm table top. This film will generate some interest, of that I'm sure. Regards, Keith F. |

Looks very good – and how the soldiers were treated by their own Government was a scandal. |

Possibly the best par tof the action from a wargaming POV is the bit I don't think is covered by the film – the attempted relief by the Swedes and I think more Irish. Anyone got info on the forces involved? Not often you ge tto field either the Irish or Swede son a modern battlefield after all! |

Bangorstu, According to Jonas Waern who was the Swedish commander in charge of the UN brigade the relief troops was one company of Irish troops and one company of Indian army Gurkhas. The Swedish contribution was limited to two wheeled APC's with crews ("Kp-bil m/42 link ) His account of the relief attempts is only a couple of pages he was not directly involved but in his account superior numbers and the attacks by the Fouga Magister is what caused the attempt to fail. He was actually surprised that losses were so light given that the Katangese hade been able to get behind the UN troops and established a road block that riddled the Un column with machine gun fire as they withdrew back to base. Sad to learn that the Irish were refused the decorations their bravery ought to have earned them but not surprised. The Swedes shared the same fate though a number of men carried out impressive feats of arms and courage during the Swedish involvement in the Kongo. |
