It still really surprises me that you have to pay for both the PM facility and to use the trading boards, none of the other gaming forums I use charge for this, is their a particular reason for this, as I would assume if these were free to use, it would attract more traffic/members?

Marketplace access – We may need to check with the Editor on that one – A few months ago I found an ad in the Marketplace selling something by a non-member.

I PMed Bill about it to confirm the FAQ about Membership and Marketplace access per his rules and was told by Bill it was OK; hence my assumption that you do not have to be a member to sell.

Unless I am mis-remembering, making a factual error or mis-stating somehow.

i still don't get it, all(most) of the so -called benefits of membership, are typically free on other sites(free marketplace, free PM's, free Avatars etc) so why are the benefits here at a price rather than free? Would it not encourage membership if these benefits were free?

It might make more people "members", but it would make Bill no money so it will never be that way. Any extras a paying member gets are simply there to thank the person for financially supporting Bill and his editors.
