"A recent video posted by WarLeaks on YouTube shows the F-22 Raptor in all its super maneuverable glory. The video shows near-vertical takeoffs, stunts, loops, and sound-barrier crushing afterburner-lit passes.

The F-22 Raptor's ability to carry out insane aerial maneuvers, coupled with its integrated stealth design, makes it the most lethal combat plane in the world. Not only can the Raptor stay hidden and in complete control of a situation, as was recently the case in Syria, but it can get up close and dogfight with the best of them…"

Dog-fighting is stupid. Gives the other guy a chance. Far better (as in all warfare) to kill the enemy and give them no chance at all.

Why the F22 is really the most lethal combat plane!
Because it's going to get its pilots killed?

Dog fighting may be stupid, but even stupider not to be prepared for it when it happens.

The F-22, with its stealth, assuming it works as advertised, will be really, really good at BVR.

Within BVR, those beautiful Russian Sukhois will certainly give it a run for its money, especially if they're the type with better adjustable engine nozzles than the F-22. They've got a lot of thrust, and the airframe looks to be a bit better to me than the Raptor as well, for extreme maneuvers, like cobras, tumbling in place to point the nose on the target, etc., etc..

Yeah, I think that the Sukhoi will give the F22 a run for it's money within visual range. The challenge for the Sukhois will be getting there.

6x AMRAAMs probably means 3 dead Sukhoi BVR, then the fun starts.

F-15s are still prettier. wink Then again, A-4s are simply gorgeous, but would be effectively useless today.

Assuming that dog-fights will not happen – is what went wrong in the 1960's.

Remember that quite a few US Navy and Air Force fighters were either built, or at least designed, without a gun. Had to be "corrected" very quickly during the Vietnam war…

It is certainly lethal to the defense budget.

Do it when you have to but it is idiocy to focus on being good at dog-fighting to make a good plane. Dog-fighting was what you needed to do in WWI and WWII. Even then the better tactic was to fly past your enemy, take a shot at them and get the hell out of there.
