I was looking at some of the Halloween decorations that are hitting the stores, and I've got the urge to put together a fantasy 'rot' army…

Who makes the best toy cockroaches? (Not too large, I am thinking of using them as 15mm cavalry)

Who makes the best toy flies? (Preferably 3D, so I can put them on flight stands)

I placed an order – free shipping, too! grin

Now to find realistic cockroaches in the right size…

A US Walmart I was in this summer had a bucket of creepy crawlies that included some good beetles/roaches amongst other things. I bought one but haven't looked at it since the initial fondling – it was only $10 USD I think for 70 odd bugs. There was a whole shelf of them and related products.

When I worked at Walmart(US) after Halloween one year I bought up all of these little bags of 93cent( roughly 93p) bugs, spiders, ants, cockroaches, or a mix of both. These had been marked down to 33cents. In addition the manager knocked off like ten percent, typical discount which doesn't usually apply to clearance items, because I was cleaning out a stock that would likely stick around forever.
Still haven't had a chance to get much use out of them. I was planning on putting the roaches and ants together with goblins and lizardmen. I just haven't painted the vermin yet.

All that said, they are probably too big for cavalry in 15mm more like Behemoths, Elephant analogs, or giant 50s radioactive bugs.

These have arrived. 1.5" long, hollow from the bottom, wings posed at rest.

I bought some rubbery cockroaches through eBay. About 50mm long, not much detail.

I am thinking I'll have to scale up to 25/28mm!
