Which type of roads do you use? |
normsmith | 02 Sep 2016 1:12 p.m. PST |
Either Kallistra plastic flocked modular roads for their hex system Or MDF covered with paste as sold by The Last Valley (UK). For open tables. I also have a reserve of roads in texted felt manufactured by S&A Scenics. |

Felt or bird-cage sanded sheets |

Felt with textured surface and track markings. Since my gaming boards or mats have very tiny rocks in the terrain flock glued mixture, the road felt tends to stick with a light "Velcro like" effect. For rivers and streams I use a printed fleece material, again textured on the edge for the banks. WR |

What kind of road? For dirt roads I use…..dirt. Nothing looks better, is more flexible and you can't beat the price. For paved roads, printed card stock held down with painter's tape. This allows me to make custom roads for every game (though now I have quite a lot of ready printed pieces). |

All kinds: felt, printed on a terrain map, foam board, carved into a base board, various commercial roads, construction paper, the area between two strings, a foamboard highway cloverleaf, and a stream of ballast. I think that's it. Basically, whatever I think will work with the rest of the scenery. |

For micro scale, masking tape, but it looks awful in photos -- that is, it looks like masking tape. It is within budget, however. |

I like Extra Crispy's approach and his solution of clean up with a portable vacuum. |
Extra Crispy | 02 Sep 2016 3:30 p.m. PST |
The vacuum is used with gravel roads when we use Woodland Scenics railroad ballast. the club has several different mixes – grayish, brownish, etc. When using dirt I just roll up the mats and shake them off outside! Instead of masking tape, get images from Google earth. Print on cardstock. You'd be amazed how far a little color ink will go! And if you're careful with them, they will last a while. |

I uae latex roads from Miniature World Maker. Failing that, tape or felt is fine with me. |

Masking tape. Infinitely flexible and cheap. |

For roads I like the stuff offered by Battlefield Terrain Concepts. Great stuff and a great price. Every Nashcon I load up on it. |

Dagwood | 03 Sep 2016 12:54 p.m. PST |

I mostly use my old Geo-hex cloth roads and cobblestone roads I get from the model railroad companies. I will be a cold day in hell before I start using masking tape. |

I make my own out of pieces of thin utility carpeting. I also do river sections the same way. The nice thing about utility carpeting is that buying one chunk at a DIY store is enough that you can do tens of feet of roads and rivers. Another advantage is that the thin carpeting is flexible and soft enough that it can be placed on gentle slopes and ridges and it will conform to them really naturally. I paint the back side(vinyl side) of the carpet and then for the roads I add some static grass to complete the effect. Here's the results of the technique: link link link link |

I have a good number of resin roads from Foxhole Terrain. They are nice pieces and the customer service is quite good. |
