He asked me to post this.
He has a locked account.
He has asked that if anyone wishes to contact him, they can PM him, via the usual route.

That is all.

We disagreed on much, agreed on much. A good guy.

napthyme28 Aug 2016 5:24 p.m. PST

at this rate is it even going to be worth the advertising dollar to list thing in the market place if everyone is gone?

Cold Warrior28 Aug 2016 5:29 p.m. PST

TMP is certainly not what it used to be.

We are currently getting a little over 10,000 visitors per day.

jowady28 Aug 2016 6:39 p.m. PST

TMP is certainly not what it used to be.

I'll admit that it's not as much fun for me today as it was yesterday.

Bill.

How many of those are "staying"?

Personal logo Editor in Chief Bill The Editor of TMP Fezian28 Aug 2016 8:13 p.m. PST

TMP has always lost members and gained members, and continues to grow.

I think it is unrealistic to expect that people will not leave TMP (or the hobby) from time to time. Many come back later.

There are also times when people will be asked to leave, usually for behavior problems. That's part of life on the internet.

The Beast Rampant28 Aug 2016 9:37 p.m. PST

What was this over?

nevinsrip29 Aug 2016 1:58 a.m. PST

Adios!

GarrisonMiniatures29 Aug 2016 2:00 a.m. PST

Depends why they're leaving. In my case, I'll accept the arguments and sometimes arbitrary DHings, but getting more and more frustrated with the system.

Seems like years ago that I extended my membership so that editors could be hired allowing the development of TMP4. That extended membership expired with no TMP4. No-one talks about TMP4 any more and the posting system is breaking down big time. I've now stopped trying to post new topics, so that's another part of TMP to be unhappy with.

I suspect I'll be leaving all together within the next few months myself.

GarrisonMiniatures29 Aug 2016 2:01 a.m. PST

That post generated '/mivacommon/boards/topics.mv: Line 577: MvLOCKFILE: Runtime Error: Error creating lockfile 'boards/topics.dbf.lck': Timed out waiting for lock' although it did actually 'take'.

That post generated '/mivacommon/boards/topics.mv: Line 577: MvLOCKFILE: Runtime Error: Error creating lockfile 'boards/topics.dbf.lck': Timed out waiting for lock'

TMP's been doing that for years. It's an effect of using a very old database backend.

GarrisonMiniatures29 Aug 2016 5:27 a.m. PST

Yes, but now it's getting a lot worse.

Gunfreak Supporting Member of TMP29 Aug 2016 5:37 a.m. PST

Bill, there is a difference between people coming and going. And people being driven away either by a semi functional forum or by what they see as erratic behaviour from the person that runs the forum.

ArmymenRGreat29 Aug 2016 6:08 a.m. PST

This stuff happens all the time with services and when the service is the best around, people eventually come back. How many of us have gotten frustrated and changed cable or cell phone providers only to go back later?

Personal logo Legion 4 Supporting Member of TMP In the TMP Dawghouse29 Aug 2016 7:05 a.m. PST

He and I didn't always agree … but I don't like some members leaving the site. But I guess it was his choice … So you have to respect that.

MajorB29 Aug 2016 7:43 a.m. PST

Yes, but now it's getting a lot worse.

How do you measure "worse"?

Weasel29 Aug 2016 8:46 a.m. PST

>But I guess it was his choice

It wasn't his choice, the account was locked.

Temporary like Achilles29 Aug 2016 9:10 a.m. PST

Bill, people like me don't post here very much any more. I've been here for eleven years and this place got me on my own two feet in the hobby, so I have stuck up for it and always acknowledge how important it has been. Now when I try to post a topic here it's hit and miss if I can. When I can, hardly anyone reads or comments on it. Maybe I'm a boring bastard, but looking around the forums almost all of the people I used to enjoy interacting with are gone. Who has replaced them? Who are these 10,000 hits per day? Are they the same bots that boosted my blog by 40,000 views last month?

People are being driven away. If that's what you want, well done, but if you want this to be the premier hobby site you like to claim it is you need to buck your ideas up.

Mardaddy29 Aug 2016 10:39 a.m. PST

Nothing is more constant than change.

So yea, TMP has changed in the past, and will continue to change, it's just the way it is. Everyone has to decide for themselves if they like or dislike the changes enough to leave.

Some are OK with the changes that have happened and stayed on, others cannot abide by them over the years and have left. It is neither good nor bad, it just is.

Eventually there may come a time when I cannot abide by changes that are still to come. If that happens, I will leave as well. Neither good nor bad, it just is.

At the same time, people are filtering in and joining, it may or may not be one-for-one, but the hobby was around and people enjoyed themselves in it without TMP before, I am sure they/I will again without.

It is not doom because some of the more frequent posters, or posters you agree with leave, it just is.

Waco Joe29 Aug 2016 1:47 p.m. PST

To paraphrase Sheldon Cooper:

While Mr. Pattern, by virtue of his youth and naiveté, has fallen prey to the inexplicable need for human logic, let me step in and assure you that my browsing will go on uninterrupted, and that social relationships will continue to baffle and repulse me.

GarrisonMiniatures29 Aug 2016 1:51 p.m. PST

'How do you measure "worse"?'

A subjective (as in not counted/recorded) impression that the proportion of 'failed' posts is increasing compared to previously, and that this failure rate continues to deteriorate. An impression strengthened by comments read on other threads by other people.

The Beast Rampant29 Aug 2016 2:54 p.m. PST

Any word on TMP 4.0 that will fix things?

Is that dawghousable yet? It probably will be eventually. grin

Personal logo Legion 4 Supporting Member of TMP In the TMP Dawghouse29 Aug 2016 3:21 p.m. PST

But I guess it was his choice

It wasn't his choice, the account was locked.

I thought he asked to be locked ? Regardless … the deed is done. And either way he probably won't be the last.

Lucius30 Aug 2016 6:23 p.m. PST

I've been here a while. To be honest with you, many of the lamented "great" personalities from the Golden Age of TMP were jerks more often than not.

OTOH, the software seems to be more unstable than it has ever been.

Personal logo Editor in Chief Bill The Editor of TMP Fezian31 Aug 2016 5:03 a.m. PST

I thought he asked to be locked ?

No, he Stifled and Ignored one of the editors.

Todd McLeister31 Aug 2016 6:07 a.m. PST

And either way he probably won't be the last.

Very prophetic of you L4. Now GarrisonMiniatures is also locked out.

But did he too fall on the stifle grenade, or was he taken out at 600 yards from a concealed position?

Personal logo Editor in Chief Bill The Editor of TMP Fezian31 Aug 2016 6:19 a.m. PST

No, he Stifled and Ignored one of the editors.

Excuse me, I was confusing him with Mute Bystander.

GM & I got along fine AFAIK ? I'm surprised to hear that he was locked out ?!? This is the first I heard of it. I'd rather see him still active. I generally had no problems with his posts.

As far as being prophetic … as I have said here and on other threads. It appears to be an ongoing trend. I only noted that by posting "probably won't be that last" … Like with the stock market, people's predilections, the weather, etc., I notice and follow trends.
TMP link

I hope you are not saying I had anything to do with him being locked out ? I Did Not … I rarely hit the [1] on anyone.

As far being prophetic … tonight's lotto number will be – 342 795 1369 …

WAIT GM IS NOT LOCKED OUT ! WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT ? LOOK AT HIS PROFILE … HE IS ALIVE AND WELL !!!!!!!!!!!!!! WDF ?!?!?

Todd McLeister31 Aug 2016 7:43 a.m. PST

He was earlier. There must've been a dialogue.

And stop shouting.

Personal logo Legion 4 Supporting Member of TMP In the TMP Dawghouse31 Aug 2016 9:04 a.m. PST

Well … I was excited … laugh

Weasel31 Aug 2016 10:17 a.m. PST

According to Jpattern, He had an argument with Bill and was locked.

That is what I thought …
