For, say, the 1920's on the Northwest Frontier, should British infantry be organized into 10-man units? If so, should a 2-man Lewis gun team be included among the 10 figures? So that, the unit (A Platoon?) would be composed of 6 Enfield-armed ORs,1 Sergeant,1 Lieutenant,1 Lewis Gunner and 1 Loader? |

No reason not to! Mind, the smaller the "unit," the quicker it breaks, but given the enormous increase in firepower from the adoption of the Martini-Henry (the Prime Period of TSATF), to the 1920's, so a 12 man section should be able to heap a world of hurt on those with less. And remember what The Immortal Sergeant (author Larry Brom) always said about playing the game the way that gives you the most fun is the "right way" to play it. TVAG |

i think that a 10 man unit including a LMG is more a WW2 fireforce than a late Colonial one.at least if you want still call them TSATF…maybe you could do with normal 20 castings units and allow, as per the rule, to operate in two 10 casting wings..lead by respective leaders..but with only one 2 men LMG 2 team in 20 men unit. |

Thanks fellas for the responses. I AM inclined to want to place them in larger units….. |

My 1930s Brits that I use with "The Sword to Adventure" rules (and in the Very British Civil War genre) are organized just as you describe. Since all of the rest of my VBCW forces are 8 to 12 figures each, I haven't found any real problem with morale. Heck, I've even used them as WW2 glider infantry in Normandy by "squinting" at the Lewis guns until they become Bren guns. Jim |

Colonel: Would you see any problem with 20-figure units for my 1920's British infantry units with a 2-man Lewis gun team, for a total of, say, 22 figs? |

asgard…from personal tabletop experience with TSATF…small 10 castings units spoils the mechanism and , above all, the visual effect of the game…too many officers, too many small and too much indipendent units ..usually converging on too many different objectives..totally unrealistic and a poor sight …maybe with 54mm minis but with 28mm ..the classical 20 men unit is the best way..just my opinion of course….we are playing a "colonial" game ..not a modern one… |
