I just discovered this bizarre 1990 curiosity on Youtube. It's reputedly the most controversial 'British' sitcom ever made, and was pulled from the programming schedule after only one episode had screened. The performances by the British cast are very good, and very faithful to the style and era of American sitcom they parody, but the premise and the script are weak, and its sustainability and comedy value frankly escape me. It reminds me of numerous one-off parody skits from sketch comedy shows – but this was to be an entire series of half hour episodes! |

There is also a German movie from last year called "Look who's back". It is satirical take on modern German society, and quite a sinister take. Hitler is back and rising. |

'Look who's Back' is also an excellent book. It was on BSB so I don't know which of the 80 subscribers complained! |

Look Who's Back (the movie) in on Netflix It is a darkly comedic gem – well worth watching |

The programming bracketing for this was interesting, too: 'Dad's Army' immediately preceding, and Jewish comedian (and sitcom writer) Ben Elton immediately following! |

Not bad, I like it. Still, it reminds me of "Springtime for Hitler and Germany" from Mel Brooks' "The Producers." |

I agree, not bad, it is far far worse than bad. I'd have to use bleepomatic words to describe how lame the first few minutes are. |

Actually, I agree with you, Dynaman. "Heil Honey" seemed funny for a moment when I glanced at it, just because it's a goofy idea and makes fun of sit-coms. It's interesting that a video still even exists. But to tell you the truth, I couldn't watch the whole thing. I really shouldn't have said "I like it." In "The Producers", "Springtime for Hitler" is the absolute worst play the producers could get their hands on: they wanted a sure-fire Broadway flop on their hands (in case you're not familiar with the plot.) "Springtime for Hitler" is presented as being pretty stinky and not something to be taken seriously, but inadvertently is. Also, for what it's worth, Mel Brooks is Jewish and fought in WWII. He seems to have really enjoyed making fun of the Nazis in his movies through the years. So maybe that's why "Heil Honey" put a temporary smile on my face. Remember "The Attila the Hun" show on Monty Python? That's something else which might have influenced "Heil Honey." Jeff |

The Producers (both versions) is hilarious, this show was just bad. I will Grant that it is a fine comedic line one is drawing when making a comedy show about Hitler's domestic life but these guys drew the line with the largest magic marker they could find. |

Speaking of hilarious Nazi TV shows, I vote for the "Nazis" episode on "Crime Scene Cleaner". But then, all the episodes are hilarious,IMO. Edit: the episode title is "Schottys Kampf", I believe. May be on Netflix. I saw it on MHZ. Couldn't find a subtitled clip, but there's an MHZ series trailer: youtu.be/x83IFgKeOvI |
