Dear All,
Yesterday at the Uni we played a hoofing Black Powder game set at the Battle of Ligny. Batrep here: link |

Thanks, I really enjoyed the spectacle and the whole story. It has actually helped me formulate some thoughts about my own Napoleonic gaming – so thanks again. Norm. PS very good photography, the lighting is perfect. |

All those Airfix box art pics got me excited, so I was sad to see 18mm. Lovely, but sad for me… boo hoo Nice looking game. Thoughts on BP? |

That does look good. I was wondering how you worked out forming a square. Those rules are in a few separate locations in the book and I am having trouble wrapping my head around the sequence. Thanks, Matthew |

We gamed Ligny last year (200 year anniversary!), with Age of Eagles…. its a good battle to fight, found it to be a hard action for the French and the Prussians. Chalfant |

Thank you all for the kind comments! As for photography, I'm from the 'take a hundred, hope a dozen will turn out ok' school! Yes I was just looking for an excuse to share the old Airfix box art that so inspired me as a youngster – Gary's wonderful collection is in fact composed of the gorgeous AB 18mm figures. Thoughts on BP – a terrific set of rule, that could do with a second edition to lay them out a little more logically! But I should emphasise I absolutely love 'em for their speed and simplicity, and the way they provide a toolset for all the work to be done prior to the game, not during it. Squares actually work very easily for line infantry that should have the 'must form square' attribute in this period – if charged to their front, they get to form a good square on a 2-11 on a D12. A 1 or a 12 results in disaster! Yes Ligny is a thrilling battle and I'm glad to be able to encourage interest in it… |

Roughly how often in these rules would disordered infantry who've just crossed water be expected to defeat troops in hard cover? I've not attempted that in a battle and it occurs to me it could be one of yardsticks for rule plausibility, like Shermans versus one Tiger in WW2 rules… |

Hello Ralph! Another great posting my friend. I tip my hat to Gary as well. That was an ideal scenario design that reflects the flavour of Ligny without having to have the massive armies in play for a long drawn out game. Very clever and seemingly enjoyable by all in attendance. Which is the main criteria for any game. Your presentation of the event was also as usual top notch. It looks and reads like a magazine article. Your certainly raising the bar. Well done, bravo! Best regards, Glenn |

Very nice looking game and exciting report. BUT… Your mission is to stay and play a battle from the 100 Days to a full conclusion |
