"On July 12, 1812, General William Hull led a force of roughly 1,800 US militia across the Detroit River to invade Canada. It did not go well. Within days Hull and his forces were driven out by British, Canadian and Native American forces. By August 16th, Hull surrendered Fort Detroit to the British without a fight. This weekend, there was a sort of accidental re-enactment of Hull's invasion, by an estimated 1,500 Americans on the nearby St. Clair River. Instead of being dressed as militia, however, most of the invaders were wearing bathing suits, were floating in tubes and rafts, and many were reported to be intoxicated…"

Hmm. Disorganized, out of uniform and drunk. That sounds like most of our invasions of Canada.

Jefferson never quite understood why eliminating almost all the regular army and then wanting to invade Canada was a sequence problem. He said it was "a mere matter of marching" but then he'd never tried marching, either.

Apperently the "invasion" cost the Canadian taxpayer $8,000.00 USD to send "Cousin Jonathan" home and clean up the mess. If anyone would like to contribute to covering the costs there's a "Go-fund-me" page for the city of Sarnia:

Well, at least this time the didn't burn down anything. :)

They're going to have to present a bill to the US Embassy. As a private citizen, I refuse to pay to get drunken rabble back.

The main danger for the Canadians is that the US won't pay the clean up bill and then sends the trouble makers back as 'illegal immigrants' as none of them had any documentation such as passports of I.D.'s.

Community service for all, across the border in Cannukland!

Perhaps our neighbors to the north need a wall? ;-)

I crossed that big bridge a couple of weeks ago en route to a family vacation in MI and I – for one – would not like to bob down the St Clair River past all the oil refineries in Sarnia.

And if the current takes you even further south, you could even bob down past the Detroit waterfront and God Only Knows what lurks in those waters!!

Make Canada great again!

It never stopped being great. We still have the meanest polar bears, sassiest beavers and strongest beer in the world!

Is there going to be a wall up there as well? lol
