What rules would you use for a basic infantry game with a 6 year old? I was thinking of buying sone platic soldiers but for my grandaughter, not sure what size is common, probably 1/72.

For a six year old, I'd start with 54mm or 1/32. Rifles roll 1D6. MG 3D6. Range is 12". Everyone hits n a 6. Movement is 12".

I'd have thought that Bolt Action would be perfect for a six year old.

Big Battles for Little Hands has a set of rules, Milk and Cookies Rules, that we have used for 15 years for games with kids as young as five or six. I think the book is still available from On Military Matters.

Just released today and they're free

Even though it says Sci Fi,it can be used for any period with modern weapons, so WW2 is covered.

Easy mechanics and you can add as much organization as you want.

There is also a book, called Panzer Kids that is available through War-games Vault, I think.

I've got my 8 year old son playing Airfix Battles at the moment. The old Featherstone basic WW2 rules were very stripped down and easy to learn as well.

1 hour wargames would be my starting place or just make up some rules on the fly.

Roll a die, a 4 or more kills the guy you shoot at. Bad guys only hit on a 5 or 6.

I faced a similar issue when my kids were small, what I did was wrote my own. Kept them down to the basics, simple movement and made up some charts for things like ranges of fire arms granades that sort of stuff and went to town playing small games with them.

I jusr wrote some simple rules and winged it.

That's what i did too. Nothing too fancy with a child that young. They will only have a short attention span. 1 hour at the most.
