link The old blog has turned into a bit of a travelogue recently! But some places need to be shared and Bastogne Barracks is definitely one to share. I wasn't aware of this place until I started looking around for places to visit whilst in Belgium. It still a working Barracks, tours are FREE but only happen twice a day at 10am and 2pm guided by one of the soldiers, so plan ahead. Included is a tour of the sites of the Barracks in relation to the Bulge Battles including the room where the "NUTS" response was typed up. The second half of the tour shows their very impressive collection of historical military vehicles along with open access to their restoration area. An absolute must if you are in the area. Years ago when I was a kid I went on a school trip to Luxemburg, and at one point of the coach trip we passed a massive scrap yard, full of AFVs and trucks by the side of the road. The place was Bastogne. |
