The researchers assert that "Nobody before this has ever statistically determined that a single stone circle was constructed with astronomical phenomena in mind."… link |

I once saw a picture of a steam crane putting the stone back up. So I question the accuracy of the circle circles layout. |

Indeed, this was a theory put forward by an American scientist 30 years ago in a film I showed my students in World History. Revisionism! |

If you just need a few objects to help you sight where what is, there is no reason why you need to make them giant rocks from miles and miles away. The underlying driver for all these megalithic structure is actually socio-economic. A surplus in food production/acquisition results in a surplus of labour, and as we all know unemployment leads to a host of social problems. Solution? Think up some reason to keep your populace employed and feed them with your surplus food! And aliens. Of course always aliens. |

This is actually an old theory (as others have noted) and frankly has been largely discredited by more recent Archaeological Studies. The current theories revolve around the relationship of "Stonehenge" to the nearby site known as "Woodhenge" as part of a very large Neolithic Religious site. |

I prefer Tarleton's explanation. Although I think they were turquoise…. |

Tarleton: What is a "knocking shop?" I've not heard/seen that term before. |
