Guys I was going to start posting my second campaign journal but then I thought it might be more fun to ask you guys if you'd like to play in a play by email/post campaign.
I think the best way to make it work would be for the players to have input to the character creation and to lay out the general behaviors of their characters rather than to provide round by round inputs to actions.
This would allow the game to move along at a reasonable pace, not bogged down too much and if someone is unable to continue to provide input for any reason it won't have any real impact.
So if you're interested in this concept just send an email to:
DEWPatherfinderCampaign@gmail.com
Which is a specific email address that I've set up for the game.
I'll need two sets of data from you: a) CHARACTER CREATION INFORMATION; and, b) CHARACTER BEHAVIOURAL INFORMATION.
Once received I'll set up the character into my system and once I've got a couple of characters I'll kick off. People will be able to join after the game has started, that's really no drama, I'll just add them in at an appropriate juncture.
I'll post as often as I can, perhaps once or twice a week, and participants can send me either an email or a response on TMP as often as they like and I'll try to work in whatever their instructions are as long as they are reasonable.
I'll pretty much run the characters in the game based off their CHARACTER BEHAVIOURAL INFORMATION for the most part and where I'm unsure I'll just do whatever I think is reasonable or I'll randomize it or if a timely email/TMP message comes in I'll follow that lead.
So a bit more information on the data I'll need.
CHARACTER CREATION INFORMATION
Guys it's up to you how much you want to provide me with.
If you're unfamiliar with Pathfinder all I really need your characters' name, race and class and I can work out the rest.
But you can provide me with as much detail as you want.
Use the standard races and character classes from the Core Rule Book, 20 point high fantasy ability score (page 16) and standard Starting Character Wealth for your character class (p141). Characters will start with max hit points. You can give me full details of stats, feats, skills, equipment, spells etc if you want.
For those that aren't familiar with Pathfinder, the standard races and character classes from the Core Rule Book are as follows:
Races: Dwarves, Elves, Gnomes, Half-Elves, Half-Orcs, Halflings and Humans.
Character Classes: Barbarian, Bard, Cleric, Druid, Fighter, Monk, Paladin, Ranger, Rogue, Sorcerer, Wizard.
Feel free to min/max the character or do whatever you want to maximise your chances. The module is deadly enough that you'll need all the help you can get.
Leave enough money spare for anything you might want to invest in along the way and for living expenses.
To make matters simple I'll only use gold pieces (ie no silver, copper etc) and I'll just round to the nearest gold. I'll charge 1gp a day for food, room and board no matter where you are (ie in town it'll be 1gp for a room and food per character or hireling or dog or cat or whatever) and when you're out of town it'll still be 1gp a day (you know like trail food is more expensive but the board is free). This simplification is just to keep me sane but also to put a little pressure on the characters for every day where they don't have 1gp to pay they'll go hungry and you'll lose 1 con point a day until you reach a con of 0 at which time you'll be dead.
Hired men at arms, if they are available, will charge you 1gp a day (and you'll also have to pay for their food so the total cost is 2gp per day). They'll come with leather armour, spear and large shield but if you want you can upgrade any of their equipment. Normal moral rules will apply for all followers/hirelings but your personal morale will be set by your CHARACTER BEHAVIOURAL INFORMATION.
You can use some of your skills/feats to develop starting equipment by the start of play. For example, if you buy an animal, such as a dog, and you've got the Handle Animal Skill, the dog can start trained (let me know trained in what). Similarly, if you've got Scribe Scroll you can start with scrolls scribed. You just need to tell me and it'll need to be paid for out of the starting character wealth.
I'll keep a register of individual character wealth.
CHARACTER BEHAVIOURAL INFORMATION
So if you think about this what I need to know is how you would like me to play your character under different circumstances.
At the very least I'll need to know your alignment.
But answers to some of the following questions would be good too:
• Personal morale. When would you withdraw from combat or would you fight to the death. Run at the first sight of blood (yours or someone else's) or when you get down to 25%. Let me know.
• Goals and objectives. Do you want to rule the world or just like bashing monsters. Do you have some vendetta or would you like to sack the Keep. Let me know.
• Key hates or likes. For example, hate dwarves, fair enough, like flowers, fair enough too.
• Your favorite saying. Do you like wondering around muttering "By the power of Grey Skull" or do you prefer "Hi my name is Buddy, my favorite colour is purple"
• Your favorite kill move. Do you put your fist in the air and declare "I'm the greatest" or are you a simple "Take that" character?
• Spell strategy. What are your favorite spells? When do you use them? Are you aggressive and use them early or are you conservative and wait and use them later? Will you only heal people that worship your god or will you heal anyone in your party?
• Loner or joiner. Do you prefer to work on your own and forge your own destiny or do you prefer to work in a party of characters? Would you want to hire men at arms (how many), would you want to upgrade their equipment, convert the general public to your god, try to convince normal people to join you on your quest, try to recruit monsters to join you on your quest, turn them into slaves etc? Let me know.
• Treatment of doors. Prefer to listen or just boom the door, maybe you prefer to have the lock picked.
• Party formation. Where do you like to be in the formation, front rank, in the middle or at the rear.
• How secretive are you? Do you let others know what your alignment is, what are your personal goals, who is your god etc.
• General demeanor. Are you kind to strangers or a loner who just sits in the corner. Perhaps you're a sulker or a swearer or maybe you're depressed. Let me know.
Anything else you can think of anything else just add it in the email to me.
All right guys it's over to you. Got any questions just ask but otherwise send me your character email and I'll get started.
