How do the Front Rank and Crann Tara Jacobite castings compare in size? Do they mix well? Thanks in advance.

short answer no…….
They are both good figures in there own right but are not compatible…..

Yes to what BC1745 said.

I use both figure ranges but in different projects.

Crann Tara are more slender and anatomically correct while Front Rank are bulked out figures.

I think the Crann Tara range has played a big part in the current popularity of more realistically-proportioned figures. Lovely sculpting.

Wow… quite a difference for castings that are pretty much the same height. Thanks for the photo bc.

I am new to the period. So what color exactly is the coat of Government troops? Is it Orange or is it something else?

I use the "craft" paints from where ever they are on sale the cheapest… Is there a "Jacobite Orange Government Troop Coat" color by chance?

bc174519 Aug 2016 12:27 p.m. PST

The British government troops cloth came from contractors …..the coats all weathered at a different rate starting a dull push red and would end up anything from a brick red( orangey red) to a pinky red depending on weather…..if lots of rain then the white trousers and gaiters when worn would also have a pink tinge……

A lot of the units were transferred back from Flanders to fight in the 45 so a range of reds would be appropriate ……there is no right colour…..

Officers clothing was bought privately and was of a deeper hue and was of better quality…..

The clothing supplied to the wild geese pictured was supplied by the French and tbh I have no idea how it behaved once in the field……
I painted mine bright as they will eventually fulfill a multitude of rolls/ periods…

Great resource there Chris, many thanks for that.Going back to the figures, I would go with Crann Tara, lovely figures that look realistic, superb service from Graham too.

Well, not as bad a contrast as I thought. Mostly in the heads. Although I haven't painted then yet, I have some figures from Crann Tara for WAS and thought the heads looked tiny.

Mind you I think Front Rank are the most overgrown figs in the 25/28mm universe.
