Last week we decided to play WarEngine, a fast-playing ruleset originally developed for the game ShockForce and then released as a free, downloadable ruleset about 15 years ago. It hasn't seen much development in recent years, but the game still exists as a highly playable, cost effective wargame ruleset. We set up a game set on Krueger's Folly, our homebrew 40k world. The setting is heavily influenced by Rogue Trader, so it's a dusty frontier planet brimming with all sorts of zany aliens, foul cultists, space pirates, mercenaries and other assorted nasties. Read more at the blog: link Tons of pics there too! Here are a few choice photos to get you started.

It really is a fantastic, fast-playing alternative to early edition 40k. Thanks for reading. |

This is very cool! I am an old Shockforce player. I own several of the armies. I always liked the rules. My issue was that they didn't really handle anything but very light vehicles. I always thought the Shockforce, Warzone and Combat Zone backgrounds sorta were similar. It's been quite a while since I looked at Warengine. Are they handling medium and heavy vehicles now? May have to bring my 'Quan out to see a little action. Thanks, John |

Really nice report. Im going to have to dig out my rules and have a go at them. As far as heavy vehicles go, couldnt you just house rule that they get X number of hits before they die? Another solution would be to design each part of the vehicle as it own unit. For instance, you could have hull, turret, tacks, and engine each with its own stat line. Each time the vehicle was attacked you would roll a d6 to see what location was hit and use that defense value. Kill the tracks? Vehicle immobilized. Kill the turret? Main gun destroyed. Kill the engine? Vehicle explodes. |

Fun rules, great miniatures and terrain. "40k" as it should be played! Thanks for sharing. |
