I saw where they put the rules on sale and thought about picking them up

I like the idea of it, Naps by way of FOW.

It doesn't really have any similarities to FoW. If that's what you're looking for, then it definitely won't be your cup of chai.

The similarity is the packaging of units and army lists in the books. It is a super slow seller for me, so I'm guessing not many are…

I have never seen anyone play it.

It seems not to be strong in the US.
There is a good group in Texas and Phill of the "Baggage train" (IIRC) runs games at the Historicon with great palyer turn-outs.
I am waiting for Kevin ( here locally and from the UK) to show interest for another go.

The rules have some brilliance as a tactical game ( By no means would I play these when I need more of a simulation then a game for a replay of famous battles) with tournament style organization ( allows throw together a "level playing field" game) but badly needs a rewrite with better English for easier understanding of the great play mechanics. You will need to read 3 times instead of once to "get-it".

If you can spend alittle, they are recommended to have!

I have had no regrets procuring mine.

A second-edition tidy up and some revision would make these a v good set of rules.

I enjoy playing them, but the lack of a second edition and slow roll-out of supporting books means there are few games on offer these days.

Its scenario based, not just re-fighting battles?

seldonH17 Aug 2016 7:02 p.m. PST

It has standard scenarios for pick up games, about a division per side plus some support…

It also has some historical scenarios in the expansion books.

I like the rules, they allow to play larger actions while maintaining the battalion as the maneuver element… Similar size of actions as Shako 2, or Lasalle…

We still play them… Indeed a second edition with the feedback from the playtesting that has happened would be great but it is not easy for smaller outfits particularly in Spain to keep their blood flowing..

We'll see…

Our local group of 4-6 gamers have used them several times and like them. I do hate it when I put 3 hits on a unit and they are removed by a roll of 4+. Grrrrrrrr!

Newcastle Australia, a small group playing in 15mm and 10mm. It is scenario based but you can have any style of battle your opponent agrees to. I am currently writing up a campaign for French and Austrians in Dalmatia.

I was not keen skirmisher mechanics. It almost seemed to be an afterthought. As figures in play they seem to be somewhat orphaned…

I've played these rules three times now, and each time I get to like them a little more. I've player French vs British and French vs Russians. There is a subtlety about the game mechanisms that makes you want to try things again, build an army a different way or test your tactics. The game does flows pretty quickly as the basics are pretty easy to pick up but as mentioned some common sense has to be used in unusual situations (but to be fair no rule set can cover every possible outcome). It is a shame that there is not more support for them.

Our group (in Brighton UK) have been playing them since release and still enjoy them very much. A few house rules have crept in and the lack of list releases has led to a lot of home grown lists (I have been hitting the Nafziger OOBs a lot).

It was just a shame the initial momentum fizzled out due to issues with the company and the anticipated lists failed to arrive but the rule set is excellent and I still haven't come across any rule set to better it.

Is this company still making this game or are they just selling off old stock and moving on?

Shakespear29 Aug 2016 6:16 a.m. PST

good question
