Very impressive. What figures did you use? |
ochoin | 14 Aug 2016 1:39 a.m. PST |
HaT for Prussian infantry, dragoons. for Austrian dragoons Zvesda for Prussian Guard infantry, hussars, for French cavalry & dragoons Revell for Austrian hussars, infantry, artillery for French artillery IMEX for Prussian artillery for some French light infantry Esci for Prussian light infantry Airfix for Austrian hussars Wodenfeld & other metals for French light & line infantry Sundry other figures, both metal & plastic for oddments (eg Hinton Hunt provided an Austrian general). Quite a few conversions. One of the great assets to conversion are the HaT SYW Prussian MAC infantry sets with lots & lots of spare tricornes & mitre hats. Was it all 100% historically accurate? No but close enough IMO. |

I think you have proved that you can do it in 1/72. Lovely looking figures and a great table. Well done to all on this project. |

Wow, a real mixture then. Well worth the efforts of all involved. It looks really great. |

Great job!!! I was able to get my hands a quite a few of the Revell Austrians but none of the Hat Prussians or Zvezda sets so I moved on to another project. I remember when you started working on yours and I'm glad you were able to see it fruition. What rule set did you settle on? |

Very nice terrain and figures. Great game. Congratulations. |

davbenbak, Do you still have any sets of Revell Austrians, infantry, cavalry and artillery? I would be happy to make you an offer for them. Rod |

I did the Austrians v Prussians mainly using the Revell sets and I might have some spare boxes of the Austrian artillery and some Prussian infantry sprues if you are interested. Guy |

Do I see some Zvezda GNW stuff in there? Really great and makes me think I need to return to my Imagi project Excellent photos of an excellent game |

Thanks everyone. I've directed this thread to my two pals as this project (as all of our show games) was a team effort. |
Musketier | 17 Aug 2016 11:05 a.m. PST |
@ Rod MacArthur As it happens, I have a fair stash of Revell Austrians of all arms, some 20 boxes – a project that seemed like a good idea at the time, but which I've been hemming and hawing about for quite a while now. Please contact me if you're interested in the whole lot. armchairgeneral AT hotmail DOT com |

WOW What a great project! I have switched all of my gaming projects to plastic 1/72 for the remainder of my wargaming life. Musketier if Rod doesnt want the 20 boxes of Revell Austrians I would be interested in them. Thanks Paul |

Always a sensible decision Paul… Love the 1/72 |
Rod MacArthur | 22 Aug 2016 10:48 a.m. PST |
Musketier, I have sent you an e-mail asking if you would split your unwanted Austrians between me and Paul. I only need 1 Artillery, 2 Dragoons and 6 Infantry. Posting this here so that Paul knows. Best wishes Rod |
Rod MacArthur | 24 Aug 2016 7:14 a.m. PST |
Just posting a thanks to Musketier and Paul for their kind compromise which enabled me and Paul to share the Revell Austrian figures. Rod |

No problem Rod glad it worked out. Paul |

Thank you both, Gentlemen glad it was all settled in the best "Lace Wars" spirit! And apologies to Ochoin for 'advertising' on his thread. It was a spontaneous move, as I had not made up my mind to sell until I saw Rod's expression of interest here. Meanwhile, you display looks terrific, Sir! If I had to start again… - Stefan - |
ochoin | 27 Aug 2016 3:03 p.m. PST |
@ Musketier No apologies necessary. As you say, the "Lace Wars" camaraderie. |

Meanwhile, back to the original posting. I spent a total of five years living in Hamelin (Hameln in German) whilst serving in the British Army. The old centre of the town looks medieval, although some of that is an 18th/19th Century reconstruction. It was originally a walled city, guarding the bridge over the River Weser. The old wall has now gone, but there is a modern ring road exactly following its original line (you can see it very clearly on Google maps). The Weser is about 100 meters wide in that area. I was Royal Engineers and we used to build bridges over it frequently. The Battle of Hastenbeck took place just to the south of Hameln, which looks similar to the scenario above. Rod |
ochoin | 28 Aug 2016 1:30 p.m. PST |
You're too sharp, Rod. That's exactly what we did: a simplified terrain from the Battle of Hastenbeck, with our own forces & different objectives. So not quite an historical re-fight & not quite a made-up battle. |
Rod MacArthur | 28 Aug 2016 1:53 p.m. PST |
I know Hastenbeck as well. Some of our soldiers' married quarters were there. The first time we were based in Hameln in the late 60s we lived in a German farmhouse in the little village of Posteholz across the Weser to the west of the town. The second time, in the mid-80s we lived on a hill on the eastern side of the town. Interestingly there was a Roman battle (Idistaviso) where Germanicus beat Armenius close to Hastenbeck as well, probably near the natural amphitheatre slightly further south on a bend of the Weser.
