Each one is/was a "genius" in one respect or another (some, more than one), and like any great thing, "Monty Python" was greater than the sum of its parts.

Take away any one member, and the whole thing becomes much less, so I can't say I have a favorite--each one is a "favorite" in his own best venue.

So, I guess I'm a "No," too.

Terry Gilliam, just for the amazing animation!

ACWBill12 Aug 2016 11:28 a.m. PST

I have to go with John Cleese as well.

I'd say Terry Gilliam, but only because of what he's done since Python. They were all equally good in Python itself, but I think Gilliam's post Pyhton work I think is better than the rest. Especially since Brazil is my all time favorite movie.

Zoot, just Zoot.

Hard to choose, but I would have to go with Palin.

The Rabbit of Caerbannog is a close runner-up.

Never watched enough of the movies or shows to remember who was who and, more importantly, who was funny and who was anything but funny.

Credit where credit is due but, overall, as group – C+.

It was the perfect storm of comedic genius hitting at a time when I could revel in all of it's insanity. They were very funny separately and perfect together. No words to describe how much hilarity and laughing they brought into my life.

THE PARROT

Gunfreak Supporting Member of TMP13 Aug 2016 5:11 a.m. PST

The parrot wasn't funny. But it did have a lovely plumage.

nazrat13 Aug 2016 6:08 a.m. PST

I love all of them dearly, but Mr. Palin has done so much through the years that I have enjoyed that I would choose him if pressed. Then Mr. Cheese.

jefritrout13 Aug 2016 6:14 a.m. PST

My immediate reaction would be Cleese, but when a little thought is involved, I really enjoyed Palin, Terry Jones and surprised that nobody mentioned Eric Idle. Chapman was my least favorite of the actors, but that is like saying strawberry is my least favorite of Neapolitan ice cream. They all go together quite well. I never liked Terry Gilliam's cartoons though, so he is right out.

Cleese does seen like a jerk at times.

I remember seeing an interview with him. He said that while doing a live version of the parrot sketch. Palin forgot his line and sevral from tje audience yelled it out.

Cleese started to rant about what was the point if they knew the lines ect.

Never liked it. Cleese is not stupid he knew perfectly well why people payed to see them even if they know the lines. It's the same reason people pay to see Bruce Springsteen or stones. To see the masters the originators preform the songs even ig they know all the songs them self by heart.

So Clesse just seems like a jerk at times.
