the picture has an 81mm mortar crew label – should that not be 3"?

The 3" was in fact an 81mm mortar nearly the same as all the other 81mm. The Brits just called it a 3" mortar.

I think the 4" is in fact 107mm or 4.2". Brits are funny people. [I am one btw]

I think the forward gun shield is wrong on the airborne 6pdr. It was cut short and narrower wheelbase to allow access to Horse gliders. Had also folding trails hinged in the middle (sometimes)

Notice the much shorter axle and the much reduced forward gun shield (limiting gun traverse). The picture in the Airborne Museum (suspended one)unfortunately is a bog standard 6 pdr

Lost the lower shield on 6pdr to allow for fitting into the horsa, and cut back on main shield…..

Each Leg could be split and I think wheels had quick release on a shortened axle

Smaller Mortar should be 3" and I think that only the 6th AARR got the 4" , which should be 4.2" later in 1944 early 45

I know I asked a question a while back on the 4.2" and one of our great TMPr's posted the info……..

Chris

Yes the legs were folded for transit. A shame as they just seemed to have used a standard 6pdr instead of the Airborne version. Hopefully they fix it for the 1/72 release

I would hope they 'fix' it with a separate box of 4 corrected gun sprues, like they did with tracks for the Panzer IV and T34.
