I was tired at the end of a long day's work, checked my email, and got the following from someone I don't even know: You really are just the nastiest piece of slime. You abuse others for being, in your eyes, intolerant, but show no tolerance for those who disagree with you. Horrible, horrible man. You disgust me. This is amazingly lame. Made me laugh! Who is this guy, and why would I care what he thinks??? (I won't give his name. He deserves anonymity.) |

The old adage " what you think of me is none of my business" applies. |

….. sticks and stones will break my bones but names will never hurt me … If a giant billboard with "names" writen on it fell on you, then names would hurt you. Or if giant russian named Victor Names kicked your ass. Then names would hurt you. If aliens from the planet names came and blew up the planet then names would hurt you. |
Doug MSC | 12 Aug 2016 5:51 a.m. PST |
Of course he said that to agitate you and hurt you. I think he was describing himself and then put it on you. What's the line?, "When you point one finger at someone else the other three are pointing at you!" |

Hate mail is always fun. It's always amusing to see how obsessive some folks can be that they feel the need to send such emails. Wait until you start to get death threats. Those are a hoot too. I wish I had saved some of the ones I got back in my bad old troll days. Some were inventive and detailed enough to be very amusing reading. (I won't give his name. He deserves anonymity.) I disagree. Name and shame the clown. These sorts of children only do this because of the disconnect and relative anonymity of the 'net. Dragging their real name into the light will often make them stop their bad behavior. |

The reason I always use my real name on the internet is I do have to stop and ponder if what I'm about to post makes me sound like an idiot, a jerk, a pompous clown or whatever. And sometimes I think 'yeah, it does' and post anyway ! |

+1 Ed I used to do that but the threats to my family were real so I layer some anonymity now days even though I know it mostly self-deceptive feel good "protection" in reality. If they look a little bit they can find out my real name but usually they are too lazy. Hell, the PRC and ISIS have all my family names and addresses (even my ex-wife but I suggest they not screw with her) so Internet Trolls are not a concern. |

As I remind a co-worker whenever she gets hate mail or calls, Churchill has her covered: "You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life." |

Listen to Martin. Martin is always right. ;-) All kidding aside, "doxing" gets a bad name due to misuse of the practice against innocent targets. But it can be a useful tool to send bad people (trolls, those who send hate mail, etc) packing. Yanking off the cover of anonymity is like a cross to a vampire for those sorts of "people". On a political forum I used to moderate at some years ago, we had some chronic trolls who kept coming back repeatedly after being banned. One was a particularly nasty piece of work. On one two occasions the miscreant in question was stupid enough not to turn on his anonymity "trollware" program. That's all it took. One day he visited the site to see his full legal name, home address, telephone number, and a Google street view of his house posted. (along with a warning to site members not do anything illegal targeting him) He never showed up on the site again. |
