Those look nice, wonder how match up size wise with Perry?

Berzerker, I've found they are a very good match with the Perry figures.

Wulfgar, thanks for the info!

Amazing price: 3 £ each for the foot and 5 £ for the mounted figures…. or something like that to make 20 £ cost for the lot of six (6!!!) figures. I understand this sets are meant for a skirmish game so you're not supposed to buy more than a few, anyway this price even for well sculpted 28mm metal figures is far too high:…
I wonder what is the reason for that , quit similar to FoW products price policy…
Sorry to be mean and I also understand wargamers might like to find high quality substitutes (Perry, Tiger etc) that still are much e cheaper but I personally might like to buy some of these to add variations to my armies but will not do due to their exhorbitant price…

That's pretty much why. I think they split the difference between historical minis where several manufacturers produce the same thing and a patented skirmish game such as Malifaux or Infinity where models are specific to the game.

If the GBP drops some or the CAN dollar rises I wll probably get some of the Ming (although I don't remember seeing a lot of chain armour on the contemporary drawings…)

Nice figures. I'd have put the Ming in brigandine suits rather than mail though (not that mail is wrong per se).

Basic supply and demand. If there is low expected demand for figures, their individual price will be higher than figures for a game that needs hundreds.

I agree. I wonder of they chose chain over brigandine for easy visual distinction between the Koreans and Chinese.-

clibinarium14 Aug 2016 12:55 p.m. PST

Quite possibly. The Ming wear a large selection of armours, and if you had only six sculpts to represent them (and that would be difficult to execute for most armies) I think brigandine would be the obvious choice, but then as you say they'd end up looking much like the Koreans.

Plus, I wonder if your entire Buntai is only 6 figures, the typical player will have them with heavy or moderate armour so they are not so brittle.

Also agree. Possibly due to inaccurate sources (Osprey), or perhaps the mtd commander figure was based-on an existing cast? I see that often where an existing mini is given a new head/helmet and marketed as a different army model.

The Ming figures could easily serve as Sung or Mongols.

These figures are ill suited for Song though they might work as Mongols in a pinch.(Though they still preferred brigindine/lamellar)

It would be nice for someone (Perrys?) to make some good 28mm Ming troops as allies of the Koreans, for the Imjin Wars.

clibinarium23 Aug 2016 8:29 a.m. PST

I hope to be curing that issue soon.

durecell23 Aug 2016 10:16 a.m. PST

I bought the Koreans set. The scuplts are nice except for the mouths on some of them. I calculate the points of the set as being ~150 points (For Ronin). 200 points is a fairly common game size so I'll need to get a few more figures elsewhere.

And I'm eagerly following your progress on the LAF. thumbs up

Cheers! I am waiting anxiously for the first test figures to be cast; the wait is killing me.

I love the North Star figures for the Ronin buntai and have tried to make a point of using just their figures for each of my buntai. However, there is a problem with the Ming buntai. These figures, infantry and cavalry, are class 3 troops. The rules in Ronin for the Ming buntai clearly state that there must be more class 0 and class 1 figures than class 3 and 4. So someone trying to create a legal Ming buntai must start with light cavalry and infantry without armor from another manufacturer. Only after have those figures (which are not included in this set) can you then start using these heavies.
