She's moving to a new place, and is waiting for the cable company to transfer her internet. This will take somewhere between 2 days and 2 months… hopefully, sooner. So if you are trying to PM Dianna, she won't be able to reply for a while. (Editor Julia, by the way, is back from her beach vacation.) |

Beach vacations… Well, it's hard to go anywhere in the Philippines where there isn't a beach! Moving to the latest place that takes 2 days…or 2 months??? Not the move, getting the cable company to switch the account! It's crazy there. |

2 of 4 ain't bad bill What else do you want me to say? I think raising money to help Editor Gwen's family is a Good Thing, as I don't know where else they would turn. And did you see that hospital room??? Scary… As for bad breath… sorry if that one hit too close to home! |
klepley | 10 Aug 2016 11:54 a.m. PST |
You are pretty good Bill, as I have no idea what he is talking about. I do know that if I lived in the Philippines I would be at the beach everyday, complain about the poor net coverage, be eating too much lumpia and pork, and happy as a could be! |

The third world service is comparable to… Well, no company names but it took several coworkers multiple trips here in the USA to convince said company they had not connected to their house correctly and once literally. One was an IT installation tech who "explained" the correct connection to the company tech and – voila' – it worked. |

Bill, I would verify these actions through a reliable third party. Just strikes me as odd. People normally are not kept in a hospital until they can pay a bill. A hospital will want to use the space to get a paying patient. cb |

No need to say anything more Bill. I'm not complaining…I think the "non" miniature related items on The Miniatures Page is a wonderful trend. Most of them give me a lot of fun. Fund raising..all for it! Hey what about this? Republic Act (R.A.) 9439 or the Anti-Hospital Detention Act .. Is this no longer in force? I mean are there armed guards to prevent you from leaving the hospital? Maybe he stayed in a private room. Scary! Sounds like a hostage situation. No worries about your Bad Breath post..I'm sure you've been the giver & receiver many times. That's one of the posts that provided a few good yucks. Keep up your noble work! Well done I say!! |

People normally are not kept in a hospital until they can pay a bill. A hospital will want to use the space to get a paying patient. When my father-in-law passed away over there, they took my college-age niece 'hostage' at the hospital for a few days. When the relatives paid the bill, she was released… and so was the body. (I wasn't there, but my wife was.) That was in another part of the Philippines, but I understand it is the custom (whether legal or not). |

Maybe he stayed in a private room.
Doesn't look private to me! |
R Brown | 10 Aug 2016 9:00 p.m. PST |
I wasn't saying he was in a private room. Maybe the link to the bill signed into law in the P'Pines was not accurate. Or maybe internet nonsense. I was only questioning in regards to the link I posted regarding the act the was passed regarding these same situations…forced hospital stays vis a vis whatever payment/room/surgery, etc. Republic Act (R.A.) 9439 or the Anti-Hospital Detention Act If this law is in force, maybe Gwen and her family can use it to their advantage? Kinda weird…here in the States now..you're in and you're out!! I'm sure you know better Bill. Keep us updated. Certainly wasn't questioning your, or your staff's, ethics. Just being, I guess, overly curious. Well, at least no one is smoking in the photos!!! |

If this law is in force, maybe Gwen and her family can use it to their advantage? Since they've talked to their mayor about the situation, I would think he would have told them if they had a legal option. Also, if you offend the hospital, where do you go the next time someone needs medical care? |
R Brown | 11 Aug 2016 9:43 p.m. PST |
So the bill I referenced, that was signed into law, is not valid? Maybe you could post the law here on the TMP front page… It's in the website I referenced previously. Sorry but I'm not sure how I could do that myself. Maybe if you send Gwen a PDF of the law I referenced they could present it to the mayor? Maybe he could then show it to the offended parties at the hospital and get the poor soul released? And what hospital is this chap being held? Maybe post the contact and we could flood them with demands? Or maybe a #hashtag campaign ? Certainly there is some sort of pressure ..from whatever sources…that could be brought? So no armed guards? Just worried that the hospital will be offended? I certainly hope this is resolved soon. Keep up the good work Bill!! And do keep us all updated as your time permits. |

I'm from Indonesia. I can vouch about people being kept in hospital until they pay. Also the 2 months internet. I moved half a year ago, and my internet provider haven't been able to connect me since their network doesn't reach my new house. We moved about 3km away. And Indonesia capital is within 15 minutes of travel (if no traffic). |

Kept in the hospital by who/whom? Are there take out facilities available for the detainees or are they forced to eat the institutional foods? Again, not being contentious…just curious. Funny, I call internet tech support and all I get is someone named Fred from Indonesia…but, he is the most helpful support person ever. I even have him on speed dial/speed chat, etc. Glad to hear Gwen's brother-in-law was released from perpetual hospital foods and IVs. Ghastly fate! Well done Bill!! Perhaps you could forward to your editors, or post on whatever TMP page, the link to the law I posted earlier to maybe help prevent another unfortunate incidence as Gwen's family. I think that might help, but leave it to you Bill. R |

Cannot keep my brother in law? nahhh thats crazy. They kept lots of patients until their bill was paid. In Mohammad's room, almost all of the patients stayed longer until the bill was paid. Though, the charity patients only pay a little, but we had a private doctor so it was sure that the operation was good. The charity operation is performed by students who are doing practice. And if I complain to the government, it takes long long time until they take action, you are lucky if they solve it. And it takes more process and complaints and money, so it's better to make way and leave the hospital, so no more big deal and wasting everything. Now my brother-in-law has finally left the hospital and is now resting at home with peace of mind… Thank you guys for the prayers and help. |

Always better to pay the ransom! Don't fight the system… You guys are correct in keeping the customs alive in the P'pines. Good for all involved in this noble endeavor!!! And so good for getting TMP involved Bill! Many thank you for your efforts. |
