We had a nice little TSATF game last night, using my Hessian AWI infantry as French. Actually, that wasn't a bad "close enough" match. Dark blue coat, tricorne…. But epturner and I want to do it right in the future. So, we're looking for Frenchies appropriate for 1798. I'm thinking that French Revolution figures might look too … revolutionary. I may be wrong. Would Napoleon in Egypt ranges be appropriate? Right timeline but I don't want them looking too ragged. After all, Ireland is not that far from France, and it wasn't a long campaign. I am getting a shopping list together for Fall In, and am thinking of Old Glory, Brigade Gsmes or Eureka. Any specific pack recommendations? And flags… |

I got me boyos from Trent. I'm looking for someone with a more reliable convention presence do I can look them in the eye before buying. |

Napoleon in Egypt troops are wearing uniforms adapted to Egypt, such as bicornes cut into caps, cut down coats, etc. By 1789 French infantry in Europe should have bicornes (mostly), coats with long tails and trousers or breeches with gaiters. I've misplaced my Pakenham "Year of Liberty" so cannot check the illustrations. I need a cataloger… |

Just checked Old Glory. Their 1807 French infantry in bicorne is much closer to what you want, close enough. From their AWI list, Lauzon's Legion cavalry for hussars, not sure what kind of cavalry Humbert had – not much anyway. |

I'm using my Lauzun's Legion already. Blue coat, brown coat… It's the AWI infantry, Royal Deux Ponts to be exact. That grated. Hessians looked fine, though. Just don't tell anybody. Just enough cavalry present to provide messengers, but not enough to lend tone to an unseemly brawl. |

Humbert's force was like a wargame army, a small force of all arms. Attached to a medieval force of peasant pikemen. |

I see it as a small 19th century force fighting a larger, less professional 18th century force. And the 19th century force is in cahoots with a 15th century force. |

I think the Pakenham tome was one of the books that went to the used bookstore. My apartment is full of books and soldiers. Need to sell stuff to fit more. I figured that wasn't a period I was really going to do. Oh well, maybe I should read Year of the French again. |
