"Denmark's armed forces say Danish F-16 aircraft have for the first time dropped bombs in Syria's Raqqa province where the Islamic State group has its self-declared capital.

Defense Command Denmark says the raid was conducted "in the past week" but did not give further details.

The supreme military command said on Friday that the Danish fighter jets also participated in operations over Iraqi provinces targeting IS command and control facilities, weapons stocks and fighters…."

Good to hear some other Europeans are entering the fight.

Wish the Germans would get on board, and do more than just fly recon sorties.

TBH are they needed?

I think there's an election in the offing which might be relevant.

Interesting. These must be the first Danish military actions since… when, exactly?

Libya I think. They sent Leopard tanks to Afghanistan.

Feisty bunch the Danes.

Mako1106 Aug 2016 1:41 p.m. PST

Yep, definitely needed, since our jets are being worn out, are lacking in spare parts, have had to stand down for safety reviews, and in some cases are literally falling out of they sky.

Approximately 70% of the USMC's F/A-18s and CH-53s are unserviceable due to a combination of all of the above.

My guess is some of the other aircraft from the USN and USAF are in similar shape, due to overuse against stone age militants with rifles and pickup trucks.

The Danes are part of NATO, etc., it is good to see they are playing their part. All constructive assistance should be welcomed. We are a Coalition in the WOT … yes ?

We've flown air missions in most recent squabbles, had special forces in Gulf War 2 and sent tanks to Afghanistan.
Further back, we had troops in the peacekeeping missions in ex-Yugoslavia as well.

We get around. People tell us that it's not okay to loot the monasteries any longer, so we find another excuse.

Do any of the bombs have cartoons of Muhammad splashed on them? That would be an appropriate response, imho….

With our "pet Dane" we usually find it's OK if we keep her out of the booze aisle in supermarkets or Real Ale pubs. If she hits either of those it's Gone A Viking all over again. ;-)

Yes, I too thought the Danes, whose Viking ancestors would be glad to see they take the fight to the enemy … whoever it is ! Seems these "Sons of Odin" show up for a fight when needed. Even if there are no monasteries around … wink
