I dug out some BTD figures of Count Dracula & Frankenstein (they're part of the BTD Dr Who range), added a werewolf and some GW zombies to form a warband. What to use for the oppostion? Luckily, I had a set of Westwind figures that represent the typical mob you see in Hammer horror films – pitchforks and torches.

Assigning some of the spells to the figures, for example Dracula could Teleport, use Mind Control and Suggest Death.

Wow, that is just great! Thank you for the report and photos. It looks like it was a lot of fun. It seems that Frostgrave is more genre flexible than might be suspected. :)

Frostgrave has good bones – I think it could be used for any number of things.

I have thought about trying FG but have been put off by the frozen setting.

There's nothing inherent in the rules that requires a frozen setting. It could just as well be the desert, a city lost in the jungle, or a city risen from the ocean depths.
You could even just use a regular old cluster of any old buildings.

I have thought about trying FG but have been put off by the frozen setting.

Thing about Frostgrave is that it can be done in any setting.

Jungle
Desert
Frozen

As Chris states, any setting will work.
