Hey everyone, my first post at TMP. I've been lurking for years, but having just purchased my first 15mm minis (awaiting shipment) I felt it was a good time to sign up for an account. I'll get right to it… I just bought about 40 figures from Khurasan because I love their human line. I also bought a few In Vitro soldiers and some aliens for my humans to fight against. Since my order, I've since discovered Rebel minis and love some of their line as well and as always, I'm nervous about plunking down a bunch of money for figures that don't match sizing. Particularly, I want to purchase some of Rebel's Kurgen figures. Does anyone have these to compare to Khurasan's colonial marine types?
vs.
Also, as a side note, instead of trying to find a bunch of people with minis from different lines, couldn't we accomplish a global sizing scale by having a bunch of people post their minis next to a penny and then someone like myself or whoever could resize the images so the pennies match sizing and thus providing a good match of scale? I could host said images on my website very easily. |

Pennies only work if you're in the US. How about put them in front of a 1" square? |

Some kind of visual scale standard is a really good idea |
tjansx | 04 Aug 2016 7:58 a.m. PST |
Yeah, good point, putting them next to a visual standard that works across the pond as well as in the US and other areas is a good idea. |

Perhaps I'll start something like this on my website. How cool would it be to be able to enter two different minis from different manufacturers and hit a "compare" button that would show you the pic of each normalized to a 1" square right next to each other. I could program something like that in my sleep… |

or like I see so many times, the scale lineup chart link |

Right, that works as well, but I think you'd need a way for people to take pictures of their own minis with the same comparison tool, and everyone's rulers look different. The way I see it is people could download a universal scale or 1" square from the site, take a pic of their mini and submit it to the site. The site would then allow you to search for two minis and do a compare. If you got enough submissions, you'd be able to manage every mini from every manufacturer and allow people to answer the age-old question of sizing between lines. |

Some people use batteries (AA usually) to give a standard scale comparison. |

Not all AA batteries are the same size; the high power long life ones are slightly bigger. |

All good ideas, and yeah, things I've seen in the past. I do think a printable scale that you can download from the website would be the best way to go… |

A printable scale (imperial AND metric, please?) is a good idea but needs to be propped IOT "stand" next to the mini in a picture (it's pretty much useless if it lays perpendicular to the standing mini, or even if it's vertical but significantly further away from the camera than the mini). What about Lego bricks or plates? Everyone has at least some laying around, parts have very standardized sizes. What about a stack of small (1x1, 1x2, 2x2) plates of alterning colours (one black, one white, one black, one white… or anything you have laying around, just without using the same colour twice next to each other)? A plate is 3,2 mm (within 1% of a 1/8 of an inch) so a stack of 6 or so would provide a nice scale for 15mm models: a "true" 15mm human model standing straight should have its eyes just between the 5th and 6th plate… One provisio, whatever becomes the standard everyone contributing should put in on the same base as the mini being photographed… |

100% agree that having things lined up correctly is important. If I did it on the site, I'd probably have an approval process where things would be vetted, as well as a reject or report if people are unhappy with the alignment. Now, where's that free time of mine? Spent playing Gruntz, unfortunately. I need to do this though, seems like a fun project. |

GRUNTZ is, hands down, a very good rules system. Highly recommended. |

Coming from warmachine it certainly seems to translate well. I love the rule book and the two long videos the developer put out. Very excited to play some games. |

Gnubrid: Thanks, that was an eye opener! I never knew Drop Troopers were Space Marines. ;->= I must say, that particular set of images works VERY well. I wish all of the other comparison posts had the same background measure. At least, one could do a proper comparison between many companies. Doug |

Doug, precisely the concept behind my idea here ;) |
