Does anyone make 28mm shield transfers or decals for Italian City-states?

I'd like to make a small army with Perry miniatures, and would love some Florentine markings, shields from the San Romano painting, etc.

So far all I can find is generic fleur de li, which isn't quite Florentine. Surely with the Perry range, SOMEBODY has done it!?!?!!?!?!

Sorry I could not find anything in the San Romano painting that tells me what you are after. But look at the Veni Vidi Vici medieval range. There are a lot of designs there.

I was looking for Venetian lions and could not find any. Hopefully someone will point to some.

Winged lion?

Yes, something like this:

Much better two-toned Florentine image here, probably the best of the lot:

I have used that Lions of St Mark image as the battle flag for my Venetians. Copied it from the web into Paint, reversed it so I had two sides, then printed it out and painted the red and gold again. Looks pretty good.

The snake swallowing the man is the Visconti emblem isn't it? Get's incorporated into the Milanese arms in the early 15th century?

I know it is hard, but you may find painting these on to be your only option. I have done some myself, it is difficult, but rewarding. And I am not talented in any way.

VVV reply31 Jul 2016 1:49 p.m. PST

Ah yes I see now, with the extra bits added to the fleur. One option is to print your own transfers. Fairly easy to do. But some tips; most printers do not print white (but some do) so where there is white on the image it is transparent. The blank transfer papers have a solid film over them, so you will need to cut each transfer out (at Veni Vidi Vici we use silk screening to print the film as well as the ink, so no cutting out needed). Since the ink is on top of the film I would recommend spraying lightly with a fixative before cutting out.

Mirlton has a selection, though not specifically for Perry.

Thanks for the Mirliton tip! I should have looked there first.

Incredible selection. Anyone used them before? They are listed as "paper shield covers", which I hope is a decal . . .

idontbelieveit31 Jul 2016 3:18 p.m. PST

I don't believe the paper shield cover is a decal. But I'd like to hear peoples' experience with them also.
