Get Bruce Weigle's book 1859. It is a set of Wargames rules, a set of scenarios, full OOBs, technical and tactical discussions, and the best bibliography around to guide you if you want to read more. An absolute must. Mollinary |

I liked the Osprey as a start. Wiegel's 1859 is a must, and has an excellent annotated bibliography that can guide you to further readings. |

Osprey's Solferino is good and Wylly is a classic account. Bassoli's War in Italy provides troop movements and battles while Marguerrites' Italy and the War o f1859 provides useful background material to the war, commanders, troops, etc.. Weigle's 1859 is a must have for the wargamer and contains a lengthy and very comprehensive bibliography as noted above. Even though in French, Almazan's La Guerre d Italie campaigne de 1859 is a good source for troop movements and OB. |

Patrick Turnbull, "Solferino – the Birth of a Nation", published back in the early 1980s gives a pretty reasonable overview of the whole campaign. |

Most definitely Bruce Weigle. Wylly also still stands up. |
