Dreamblade Repainted

Hundvig Fezian is not a real big fan of pre-painted minis, and he positively despises randomly-packed "collectable" ones - so why is he writing this article?

Which brand of toy cars do you prefer for your wargaming needs?

Dynaman878930 Jul 2016 1:03 p.m. PST

Cheap ones from the dollar store are best.

These days, definitely Matchbox due to the more "real world" designs. Hotwheels has released some very odd vehicles the last few years. My all time favorite is the Hot Wheels Military Truck, however.

The Beast Rampant30 Jul 2016 1:15 p.m. PST

Either. Sometimes I want realism, sometimes wackiness. I just grab what looks nifty. I never pay attention to which is which.

Matchbox…Hotwheels all tend to be mad custom jobs…

steamingdave4730 Jul 2016 1:29 p.m. PST

Not really a problem in the 17th century!

Aren't these really the same company?

Yea, Matchbox.

Pretty much hate most of the HW paintjobs and designs. Most just look ridiculous, sadly.

Neither work for my wargaming needs; both are too small to go with my 28mm figures. My current go-to cars are the Pixar Cars diecasts.

For Pulp/Gangster/PI/Cthulhu games (c 1900 to 1940's), the Lledo "Days Gone By" Range can't be beat. Being 1:64, they are the PERFECT scale for 28mm figures, and while most models are British, there are more than enough US autos/trucks to fill every need.

The best source is E-Bay--most of mine cost around $5.00 USD--and I have at least 50 different examples for all manner of games and periods in the range.

The photo thoughtfully posted above gives a fine impression of what they make, and the quality is top peg.

They even make a Model T Police Car that comes with plastic figures of a Cop driving and two fleeing bank robbers--and they are IDENTICAL in size to Bob Murch's Pulp Figures.

Highest recommendation!

I use Model Power Ho cars and trucks with heroic 15mm (Zombie Apocalyse)
I use Greenlight cars with modern 20mm
I use 1/43 scale cars with Heroic 28mm (Road Warrior and Zombies)

Mostly Matchbox for a variety of 15mm science fiction needs.
