As I mentioned elsewhere, I was impressed by the number of people I met at Historicon who flew to the convention.

I always seem to run into someone who flies in from California or Texas. But this year Alaska was added to the list.

Overseas gamers included the U.K and Thailand. They should get a special prize.

There is a serious purpose in asking the question. When it comes to evaluating new convention locations, the size of the "airborne brigade" (maybe division?) of attendees can easily be overlooked. This is (obviously) a very dedicated group of gamers who seem willing to go almost anywhere for a good convention.

Getting a better idea of the size of this group can only help in future convention planning.

I am in the UK and could not afford to fly to an American show although I do fly to America once a year for a vacation. I would have my wife with me so it wouldn't be a good way of earning brownie points if I disappeared for a day or four while in the States.

I do fly to Crisis in Antwerp in Belgium as it is over 600 miles with a ferry crossing included if I came by car. Petrol is somewhat more expensive here compared to the States, circa 7 dollars a gallon. So flying is cheaper.

I imagine some took a number of planes, of varying scales. grin

I would consider flying to Historicon if it were in shuttlebus distance of an airport.

Two of my friends who attended flew from Mississippi into Richmond. They then rented a car for the drive to, around, and from the convention.

I always fly. Didn't attend this last one though

I have been to around 4 HCons and being in reasonable distance to airport is very useful. I have usually used IAD and car hire to the venue.

I drove from Rockville, Maryland. It is approximately a 1-2 hour drive depending on the traffic around the Beltway and I-95 South. Usually, I-95 is horrible.

Like Wackmole9, I flew into Dulles from Denver. I visit Bull Run/Manassas on Sunday.

I have flown from Los Angeles to attend Historicon in the past and hope to do so again in the future (or possibly drive in order to bring a game with me, which may seem crazy but I have done a couple times driving to New Orleans, which though not as far is also pretty dang far). To be honest, even if I'm flying, distance from an airport would not mean much either way. For me it's all about fitting the trip into my own "real life" schedule. If I'm able to do that, I won't let further logistical details deter me.

While the cons were in Lancaster I would either drive 8 hours or get a flight/rent a car out of BWI or Phillie.
If the con gets moved I hope they try to put it near an airport with cheap carriers.

Not this year, but I have in the past.

TMP Reader231 Jul 2016 4:31 p.m. PST

I will be flying in for Historicon 2017 from Chicago.

Frederick the not so great03 Aug 2016 9:59 a.m. PST

As a resident of Fredericksburg, I would recommend flying into the Richmond Airport. It is about an hours drive from the Fred and depending on the time you fly in, you would be driving against the heavy traffic on I95. It is easy to get to and the security lines are never long.

Charlie 1203 Aug 2016 1:38 p.m. PST

When I went to any of the 3 east cons I always flew (no choice when you'll coming from SoCal). Like Chuckaroobob, I'd like to see the next location near an airport (but I know that's way too much to hope for).

And Frederick's right, if flying to F'Burg, Richmond is much easier (did it two years ago).
