China and Russia have agree to hold joint naval exercises in the South China Sea, in September:

Also, of note, it appears China was successful in pressuring the other 10 nations to not mention the Hague ruling on the SCS, where they lost in court, totally negating their claims of historical sovereignty to the region.

The Philippines challenged their assertions to ownership of the region, and won a resounding victory in court, which totally repudiated China's unfounded claims there.

China and Russia are in cahoots to challenge American global hegemony, or at least they perceive it as such.

Duh! We drove them into each other's arms through stupid policy choices and while they do not yet trust each other one bit, if the West does not change its policies we may see the development of a more cooperative and harmonious Asian-Bloc which is the last thing the West needs now.

Cheers.

Yea, it's our fault they built those man-made islands in the SCS, to support their highly dubious claims "sovereign ownership", are acting militaristically in the region, and threatening all their smaller neighbors.

Also, occasionally closing the SCS to traffic, so they can run "defense" exercises.

Mako11:
No, it's not our fault that China is exercising its political/military muscle in the South China Sea. It is our fault that our policy has financed a Chinese economic boom that has allowed this while at the same time has impoverished the West's budgets and weakened its military potency. It is our fault that in our short-sighted eagerness to roll up Russian influence in Eastern Europe since 1991, we have created the conditions where Russia felt it had to seize Crimea to protect Black Sea naval bases and to entangle the rump-Ukraine in localized civil war to block Ukraine entrance to NATO and the EU. Finally, it is our fault that we are now driving Russia and China into closer cooperation which could eventually result in an effective pan-Asian Bloc to countervail Western power and influence.
Whose interests does a new Cold War serve? Cui bono?

Cheers.

As opposed to this exercise: link which doesn't close off surroundong waters?

Mako1128 Jul 2016 12:38 p.m. PST

Yea, again, it's our fault that Russia invaded Crimea and Eastern Ukraine, and even as I'm typing this, their proxies/allies in Ukraine are killing people with military hardware.

Poor Putin couldn't help but invade, given what we've done to him and his country.

A pity China and Russia are too weak to exercise their own independent judgment and be responsible for their actions.

The puppet masters of the world unite, and deal with ISIS and the jihadis the same way, next.

You're approaching Baghdad Bob level skills there, Rod.

The expression of the need for skepticism in the face of military saber-rattling and jingoism is hardly propaganda. Putting events into a perspective is only dangerous to those who wish to reject context and promote a cause in the absence of facts and analysis. Why not attack the argument rather than the person making the argument? Is it perhaps that there is little argument to be made?

Why some here insist upon demonizing those who disagree with them by likening posters to mouth-pieces for foreign interests or intellectual academic globalists is beyond my ken to understand. At least I put my real name below my posts rather than a pseudonym and so stand by my expressed views publicly. Such cannot be said for others here.

Cheers.

Rod, I agree with you. And it's useless to use logic and facts with Mako11.
