I am not a big fan of an entire army of blue guys in my ACW games. Since this year's Fall in theme is Poland. I did some research and saw that at least some of these guys wore Czapkas(sp?). So where can i get a reasonable representation of this in 15mm? I doubt the entire regiment wore them at any one time, but a stand of them in an otherwise early war uniform unit adds a little color. can't tell for sure…maybe also the 31st NY? link |

Well, the caption says Col Pratt's Polish Guard 1861. Part of the 58th NY 3 month volunteers. Looking at this website: link it appears that only one company wore the czapkas. Which is new to me. After 35 plus years of research in the ACW this is the first I've heard of anyone wearing this headgear. Since the caption refers to a three month volunteer unit, and this website mentions the unit in both May and November 1861, I'd guess there are two different units. One raised for three months ad a second raised after the first mustered out. link Only four officers and 28 enlisted killed or died of wounds between 1861 and 1865. Sounds like they didn't see much action. |

Peter Pig's Heads line has (101. Polish cap) which is not exactly what you are looking for but is along those lines. |

Yeah, not much shooting at Chancellorsville or Gettysburg. |

jowady, the point was they were at Chancellorsville and Gettysburg, and had 3 people killed total at the two battles…for instance at Gettysburg, it looks like their monument is just to the left of Barlow's knoll, but the regiment was mostly coming back from a recon mission to MD and didn't fight on the 1st… looking at chancellorsville, it seems they were shielded by 26th wisconsin regiment |

I have a regiment of Hood's army wearing mitre hats and another one in bearskins. Does anyone know the names of these regiments? ……or did I mix up my lead piles? |
