Just curious – when you were into Battlefleet Gothic, did you just play the standard 40K forces, or did you add your own star forces and use non-GW models?

Garand25 Jul 2016 2:37 p.m. PST

Standard forces.

Damon.

TheGaffer25 Jul 2016 2:43 p.m. PST

Only played it a few times and used the standard models.

Lion in the Stars25 Jul 2016 3:04 p.m. PST

Standard forces, though I was working on a Marine fleet…

Allen5725 Jul 2016 3:05 p.m. PST

Used the standard forces.

Would be interesting to see Star Fleet vs Chaos grin

Just had the standard forces. I wanted to collect some of the Forge World models but they were just too cost prohibitive. Just got back into playing the game and enjoying it. I am sure I will be trolling e-bay before long looking to fill some gaps if we start to take off playing with frequency.

Standard forces – there's few other lines that even come close to the general aesthetic. Now, that may be changing with Shapeways. And some older designs weren't quite the cathedral in space of Imperial Navy vessels…

mad monkey 125 Jul 2016 3:42 p.m. PST

Standard forces.

Markconz25 Jul 2016 3:42 p.m. PST

Standard forces but use alternative models for some fleets, e.g.

Standard forces, but never got past the first four.

The game seemed to work best as Imperial vs. Chaos.

chromedog25 Jul 2016 8:10 p.m. PST

Used non-GW miniatures for my SM fleet.

I used GZG Neu Swabians for my marines. The flying brick design equally suited the less than subtle methods of pacification the marines use (and the small eagles on some of them also helped. I'm not a fan of the castle spaceship vibe.

I started work on some scratchbuilds, (I DO go on about disposable razors, but these had that same shovel nose as Imperials) but never got far enough in the game or the projects to work out stats.

ST vs. SW is a bit too much of a stretch for me, never mind BFG vs. almost anything else. Well, maybe BFG vs. SW.

I always thought the midiclorians were agents of the Warp…

Maybe it's GW brainwashing--or just that I like the gothic nature of 40K--but I stick to the BFG models. I'm even still buying them occasionally on eBay.

nazrat26 Jul 2016 7:56 a.m. PST

Nothing else compares so I only ever use(d) GW models for my BFG games.

TheGaffer26 Jul 2016 3:44 p.m. PST

Use Full thrust for BSG and Cold Navy.

I once played in a campaign where I used B5 Fleet Action Vorlons as "counts as" a Space Marine fleet.

They were a minor alien race whose ships were equivalent to SM, but because they were xenos I could not ally with Imperial players.

Mithmee27 Jul 2016 6:09 p.m. PST

Was never interested in the game.

Shadowcat2028 Jul 2016 11:31 a.m. PST

Always used only standard forces. Still grab a ship off of E-bay every now and then.

I could not ally with Imperial players.

Both sense from the fluff and playability/balance. I salute you!

Was never interested in the game.

Quite understandable, but if from GW-avoidance, like Man O War, fun little beer-and-pretzel bash, and the fluff can be quite funny.

Now, did anyone try to develop any of the semi-official fleets? Demi-urge? Fra'al?

You'd pretty much have to come up with your own ships, as well.

There's semi-official Demiurg. You can also find the Additional Ships Compendium, which collects ships from a variety of sources, including fan designs. Some interesting ships.

TheBeast Supporting Member of TMP03 Aug 2016 5:23 p.m. PST

How many for Demiurg? They filled out enough to field? I'd looked at 'updates', but didn't think there were enough. Live and learn.

Fra'al? Any more than the one in Planet Killer?

I used only the BFG ships for my Marine and Imperial fleets.

I'd love to get involved in anther game at this point, with the remaining marine fleet I have. I will still play BFG but I'm looking for something else to toss dice in.

alpha3six06 Aug 2016 11:09 a.m. PST

In case anyone is interested in a digital recreation of the BFG tabletop game (literally a digital tabletop with all the same rules and dice rolls), Battlefleet Gothic: Leviathan is now available for iOS and Android devices.

Toaster08 Aug 2016 2:36 a.m. PST

I did a conversion to Star Wars of the rules years ago, it had the right space opera feel.

I gave away all my gothic fleets years ago but the other year I scratch built an imperial fleet in squadron scale to better suit all my other fleets. Using the Colonial Battlefleet rules these days however.

Love BFG. Still play it every now and then.
Used the standard forces and GW models as per the books plus some forgeworld models and a few kitbashes.
