I made some, years ago, by cutting and bending wire shirt hangers. They were to support 1/100 models providing air strikes in land combat games, so required no great precision, but they had to fit in among the terrain and models on the table-top, so I went with a tripod structure instead of one solid base. If that would meet your need, it's a simple enough idea you could figure out a design for yourself, or, if you like, I can try and find my old sketch of the design and forward it to you.
