Dear all,

These new rules seems promising.
Not ECW specific but could be a contender of "VWQ"…

link

From website :

"Baroque is a set of wargames rules, based on the Impetus system. The rules allow you to play with miniatures the wars that ravaged Europe from the mid XVI Cent to the end of the XVII Cent.

The book includes game rules for field battles (with examples and diagrams) and 7 army lists to start play immediately:

German Catholic (1618-32)
Swedish (1630-34)
English Royalist (1642-43)
English Parlamentarian (1642-44)
Ottoman Turk (1645-1700)
Later Imperial (1648-1700)
Later Polish (1632-1700)
Many more lists will be available soon as beta lists and in a future supplement".

Quick reference sheets and examples of army lists are available… and the rules may be downloaded from wargame vault.

Kind regards,

Benoit

Played twenty games thus far. Fantastic fun for ECW.

How long are your games taking to play on average, Kev?

And how many turns?

Excellent rules, fantastic fun.

Thoroughly recommended.

Now that we're used to them Vince, two and a half to three hours for a game but we tend to be relaxed and waffle a lot. If we concentrated on actually playing daresay that would be more like one and a half to two hours.

Maybe 4-6 turns per side, but that is vary variable – it's probably more but the 4-6 are usually the key element of the game.

"Mid XVI Cent"--so how about French Wars of Religion--doable?

Baroque is for 1550 to 1700, so FWR absolutely included.

Vincent.

Our smaller games of 600-900 pts are about 3 hours max of about 6-8 turns. When a command breaks, it's units might fight on now (if they pass discipline tests) which means it's very hard to predict a collapse.

We've played 900-1200 point games with four per side which last typically four to six hours and about ten turns.

Zipp's right that the key turns are usually 4-6. Jack (my son) essentially destroyed me in two turns but I managed to last for another ten at one point.

FWR might be my next foray.

How big is an average army- say the 600-900 point ones mentioned?

How flexible the basing?

Clarification edit.
I've just been gifted a load of 70s/early 80s 25mm (PROPER 25mm, to top of head) ECW. These are going 2 to a 30mm base for Regt of Foote (1st edition)

Looks like I will end up with about 40 musket/20 pike (V. Approx estimate at the mo)

Dear all,

The rules are -25% until the 29th ( see link ) .

@Last hussar (the "great gifted" man) : sample army lists are available on the editor website. It seems that :
- infantry unit (2 bases of pikes + 1 base of muskets) = +/- 60pts
- horse units (3 base) = +/- 50pts
- artillery unit (1 base) = 10 or 15 pts

Basing seems really flexible too (see editor website for a "pdf" about this).

Kind regards,

Benoit
