Hi folks! I am planning to purchase a bunch of Republican Roman figures from Aventine. I see that LBMS makes some transfers for the Aventine figs. But…I like some of the transfers for other companies (specifically Renegade) better. Do you know how interchangeable these transfers are? I would think the Roman scuta is fairly similar from one manufacturer to the other. Would it be a close enough fit, that a little bit of careful painting could fix? Or would it be disastrous? |

I've notice different sculpt on shield from differn5t manufacturers for the same period figures. I would bring up their web page and compare before you buy. P. |

And have you compared with the Veni Vidi Vici ones (thats me BTW). Because VVV transfers are on a transparent background film a) you can have any background colour you like and b) they fit a wide variety of figures. Oh and no cutting out needed. |

VVV has a point, especially since Renegade figs are usually described as very large. I haven't seen any, myself, but presumably that would mean their shields are large too, which in turn would make LBMS transfers designed for them too big for most other manufacturers. You could try other LBMS designs for different makes, though, and all that would be needed would be some careful painting to make the edges of the transfer blend into the shield. I did this with some intended for Aventine Velites that ended up on 1st Corps Equites. |

From experience, LBMS Republican Roman transfers for Gripping Beast will work on the old Foundry Romans just fine. The Aventine shields(and transfers) are noticeably bigger, and need their own transfers – the Gripping Beast ones are too small. You can order scutum from Gripping Beast, and use them on the Aventine figures instead of the original shields. It looks fine. Don't know about Renegade, but if they are larger, as Caliban indicates, they might match Aventine. As a fallback plan, you can see if you can try to order Renagade scutum and substitute them. |
