Nice one and a lovely way to end a thread. But I don't know about you, but I would not like to get hit by the Drum-Major's mace, whatever the end contains. (by that, I mean a real one, not the model one. LOL)

I would dream of commenting on the painting but I am curious about the construction of the upright white 'plume.' From the texture, it doesnt look like a hackle plume of cut feathers but if it were some kind of -?- horsehair ornament, how would it stay upright (matron)?

Not my area of loitering, so writing from a point of view of basic ignorance.
