great stuff but I suppose you couldn't really use them in a 'pitched' battle, more ambush and raid type of thing ? |

Probably. After the release of the first metal cavalry codes the Perry brothers said there would be more codes on the way. I hope for cavalry on standing horses to bolster some command stand. Lovely stuff though. I think they are a joy to paint. I think Tango would agree ;D |

"Bushwhackers raided towns that suppoerted the Union side" Oh goody, now we can do the Lawrence Massacre with the proper figures! |

When was mounted cavalry ever used in an ACW pitched battle? Opequon Creek (3rd Battle of Winchester). Largest mounted cavalry charge of the war. There are actually quite a few. Farnsworth at Gettysberg is notable. Kim |

Out of curiosity, did cavalry move riding their horses from one place to another when in battle? If yes the use of mounted cavalrymen is obvious as movement would be a big (the biggest?) share of their involvement in battle. FYI the Perry do dismounted cavalrymen… |
Trajanus | 13 Jul 2016 5:56 a.m. PST |
Yes they did. Increasingly during the war the cavalry operated as mounted infantry as well as a recon force and occasional classical cavalry actions. Horses were held in the rear during dismounted action by one in every four troopers. Perrys do nice mounted (correctly) horse holders and horses and dismounted troopers as you mentioned. Oddly they have never produced dismounted Command Figures though. |
