No, not like this one …

DRUM! DRUM! DRUM! DRUM!

… I mean more like these …

Baa, baa, lunchmeat. Have you any tzatziki?

How many animals do you have in your miniature collection …

None
A few one-offs
One good herd/pod/band/murder/etc.
Many herds
I got a freakin' menagerie here!

… and what types?

Livestock
Domesticated
Wild 'uns
Fantasy Beasts
Scifi Exofauna
Prehistoric

-----

For me, I have a menagerie of all the listed types. I have some one-offs like foxes for Kitsune and a junkyard dawg for Bubba; (small) herds of cows, sheep, and pigs; dinos and extinct mammals; giant versions of various beasts; and excursions in extra planetary evolution.

For fantasy and scifi, I would only consider non-humanoid things of beastial intelligence as animals. So, giant web-footed space slugs would count, but purple dragons would not. Feel free to disagree with this criterion and offer counterexamples. It's a tough call.

Mako1110 Jul 2016 6:20 p.m. PST

Hmmm, a few cows for WWII Normandy.

Some aliens, and alien fauna for Sci-Fi.

Have no ideas on the numbers.

zippyfusenet10 Jul 2016 6:25 p.m. PST

Oh deer. I have a box full of 28mm North American wildlife from bears to moose to buffalo to fox, and also of North American domestic livestock, poultry, dogs, cats. I have a giant eagle for a Thunderbird and a batch of oversize bunnies that I intend to convert into jackalopes, once I get busy twisting up a set of wire antlers for them. I find a lot of stuff pre-painted in toy departments, in Toob and other toy sets. I can't resist 'em. Oooh, a giant squirrel, I can add fangs and convert it into an ice age Giant Sabre-tooth Squirrel…it's an illness, I'm a sick man.

Many herds. I have highland cattle and sheep and pigs for dark ages. Deer and beaver and geese and mountain lion for FIW. Goats and fowl and camels for NWF. I like to have extras on the table.

Oh, and I have some bear and dogs, too.

Coelacanth193810 Jul 2016 6:47 p.m. PST

I have donkeys and camels, many dogs, some snakes, a pride of lions, not enough wolves, some foxes, a bear, a few chickens, and a swarm of killer rabbits :)

I forgot that I have some giant boar for my fantasy King Arthur, too. So I guess I got a freakin' menagerie!

Rich Bliss10 Jul 2016 6:55 p.m. PST

I have a full selectin of African Ran Forest Animals and a few Savanah. I also have a nice tidy collection of Late Pleistocene for my Siberian Expedition game. And, of course , the usual beasts of burden.

Only in Pig Wars

Grelber10 Jul 2016 7:23 p.m. PST

Herds/flocks of cattle/sheep/swine for PigWars type games, dogs, wolves, lions, various beasts of burden, some fantasy creatures, and various prehistoric beasties, like the Copplestone terror birds and two resin mammoths that started out as Christmas decorations.

I have some African animals, maybe 20.
And some pre-historical dinos & mega-fauna, maybe another 20.
If you count fantasy, a couple thousand more.
Only counting the painted ones, of course.

Ottoathome10 Jul 2016 8:43 p.m. PST

I have some. I use them for scenic effects on the terrain. For example there's a shepherd and his sheepfold and dog in a birch grove. He's in the grove to protect him from troop stands and to prevent it getting wrecked. My forests are "hexagonal boxes" with lids so you can really hide troops in them and on the flanges around the base set off by the internal walls I have woodland animals and small scenes, illustrations of fairy tales and the like. One open field hex has a deer bounding through it, leaping over a fence. These things have to be heavily reinforced to prevent being wrecked by the stands and troops in battle. This can be done with a little forethought and arranging stones or trees to make shields or supports to protect them. Sometimes I make them on small tiles or bases as a unit. I use these for a real game function, as markers for points to be gained for victory in the game.

"OK, let's see who won. Pat, you have the sheepfold, the Milkmaid with the cow, and the roadside shrine for three, while Mike, you have the gaggle of geese, the ba-ba black sheep, the Jolly wanderer, and the couple behind he bushes en-flagrante delicto."

There's some buggalo…

War Panda10 Jul 2016 10:54 p.m. PST

Usually if I'm asked if I have a certain item in my collection I'm delighted and even boastful to confirm the quantity if it ig it's of a decent size. On the other hand if the item in question is the quantity of my animals it's more of an embarrassment

These are for use primarily with WWII 20mm

Pandas, Tigers, Dogs (lots of these) Pigs (black /white & pink) sheep (lots) penguin, fox, cattle (28mm, 20mm, 15mm alive & dead and of various colours) bears, raccoons, rabbits, hens, chickens, duck, geese, cats, hippo, elephant (because of Normandy) and tons more….

Why you may ask?

Children's game. On my battlefield I'll hide various animals and the kids have a certain time limit to see how many they get.

I do war game occasionally too…honest

evilcartoonist10 Jul 2016 11:29 p.m. PST

Just a few dinosaurs to hunt.

But I think Rubber Suit's buggalo get the win!

Mako1110 Jul 2016 11:48 p.m. PST

Almost forgot about the dinos.

Must get them on the tabletop, soon.

African, North American, Asian, Australian wildlife for VSF and small group games in various locations. Two plus Kaiser Rushforth cases to hold them.

Mike Target11 Jul 2016 4:16 a.m. PST

WG did a bit last year about how their best selling range was Cows and Sheep…

I've a few- just enough to scatter around and give the impression of a lived in rural environment- a couple of chickens, a pig and a pair each of cows and sheep.
In big games we will "pool" our livestock, but whole flocks of sheep tend to get in the way…

cleo liebl11 Jul 2016 8:07 a.m. PST

Irish wolfhounds with a sheep as their leader (actually, it's a wolf in sheep's clothing). Usual farm stock. Singleton ostrich, ibex, deer, bear, etc. All sorts of river creatures to attack those foolish enough to ford across water. And a purple dragon which Bob's young sons explained to me was not historically correct. C

So many animals… so many…

Terry L11 Jul 2016 1:24 p.m. PST

I'll have a lot of animals in my Amish Rake fight game. Flaming pigs and stampedes of cattle to name a few.

John the Greater11 Jul 2016 2:02 p.m. PST

Just a few, mostly to provide visual interest in camps.

I do want to get a poodle to add to my Prince Rupert figure.

Brian Smaller12 Jul 2016 1:58 a.m. PST

Yes there is.

Who makes some good Oxen?

Mooseworks817 Jul 2016 9:56 a.m. PST

I have added SLM lions recently. Of course I have horses, boars, dragons, rats, wolves, squigs, snakes, lizards, spiders, scorpions, camels, oxen, cattle, sheep, tigers, bears, dogs.

Apache 617 Aug 2016 10:49 a.m. PST

I've got a bunch that can be used as either 'scenary' or have game effects depending on how I feel that day.

I've got a herd of cows, a single bull, a swine pen with pigs and a wild boar. A herd of goats, a big RAM, Unsaddled horses, wolves, dogs, a black bear family, an "angry Grizzly bear." A 'clutch of turkeys.' a handful each of camels and bison. An owl, a falcon, A ferret, a domestic cat (all of them came from D&D familiar pack and are overscale but used). I've got a gorrilla, and a Sasquatch.

I've also got exotics that were bought, but have not been used including 'raptor-type' dinos, plus several larger ones (all from discount stores or flea markets). I bought them on the off chance that I might someday do jurasic park or use them as alien fauna.

Plus there are horses, donkeys, and oxen used to haul wagons, or plow.

Obviously cavalry has horses.
