Did Partridge and Oliver ever author a follow up to Battle Studies in the Peninsula, May 1808 to January 1809? |

Do these distinguished gentlemen remain with us? I know their publisher was bought out by a larger house. |

Mr. Oliver was active on the Le Feu Sacre list a few years back. He may still be, I've not been by recently. |

Hi: This is Michael Oliver about whom you're saying all these nice things – thank you. Battle Studies was originally intended to be a series of around 7 volumes covering the entire Peninsular War and aimed at wargamers. However, before we got the chance to expand beyond the first volume, Constable & Co asked us to write the Napoleonic Handbooks which took us the best part of five years. By then the interest they'd shown in Battle Studies no longer existed so it stopped after one volume. Albuera was commissioned by Pen & Sword and, for me, was a labour of love that allowed me to correct some wargamers' misunderstandings about the quality of the Spanish troops. In view of the comments made here, Richard Partridge and I have decided to consider taking up the Battle Studies project anew. If we decide it's within our capacities and we can find a publisher, we may well have a shot at it. We'll try to keep TMP posted on progress but, meanwhile, thanks again for your kind words. Mike Oliver I have your Albuera book, so that will be something to look forward to, especially since I feel, judging by the latest publications (not including the recent mass of 1815 titles of course) that there appears to be a move away from titles covering single actions by publishers. |
