"During this past year, various theories have been posited to suggest that our current political mood might foretell a reckoning so dark that it could eventually spiral into a veritable international crisis—some terrifying World War III doomsday scenario. Some of these hypotheses have been undeniably hysterical, for sure. But others have been remarkably, even eerily, sober. And now, with a world on edge, they have gone mainstream.

In the weeks preceding the Brexit vote, outgoing prime minister David Cameron admonished listeners that the United Kingdom's divorce from the European Union could cause instability in the region that might indeed lead to a significant geopolitical conflict. Various members of the media echoed this sentiment, and offered up a theory that other countries might subsequently exit the E.U. (Sweden, Holland, Hungary, and Greece are on the short list to try to walk first), potentially setting off a battle of influence between Russia and the United States, a Cold War 2.0…"

Im wondering;
"Havent we BEEN involved in a Technical World War for sometime now?"
My point, think of all of the computer 'vandalism', just in the last few yrs. Im sure some were just 'over smart teens' w/ nothing better to do.
But there have been instances reported where, there we're indications that foreign gov'ts were involved in some of these.

MY great fear is that a number of these are just 'dress rehearsals'. Hacking corporate computers are testing to see if someone could successfully 'knock out' or at least temporaily 'blind/block' US communications system.

Now the part Im sure some / many may laugh at.

Think the (remake) Pilot episode of Battlestar Galactica, unlike the origainal version where the 'good guys' simply walked into a space age Pearl Harbor.
The more modern series took a Far More Realistic approach. The home fleet was blinded and largely became helpless due to a computer virus that was sent in the form of a 'harmless' message.
As a result, defence systems, life support, engineering and even fighters were automatically told to "shut down".
Before some laugh, stop and think.. each day more and more duties / tasks are being handed over to computers. Sadly (and frighteningly) that includes militarty and economical data.

Just a thought folks.

@Part Time Gamer
You don't even have to go that far.
Imagine a crisis event and you're not able to call up your people on leave or reservist because e-mails are under DDOS and cell phones for some reason refuse to work.
The first 2-3 days could be the end of the entire war.
