Rumours are afoot that GW are thinking about kicking Dark Future – their old, 20mm scale post-apoc road battle game – into the 40K universe at some point in the near-ish future. Having heard such tales of games being resurrected before, (and oft finding them to be just tales), I'm debating beating them to the punch, and doing a 40K universe car race as a convention game. 28mm Fanatik recently jogged my memory with a link to Wargame Exclusive… wargameexclusive.com … who make a lot of 40K add-ons and near-rip-off figures that are aimed straight at GW's market. But, they do offer some VERY appropriate-looking vehicles…
I think these will do nicely, but does anyone have any other manufacturers I could consider for the starting grid? Now to build the great Circus Imperialis in 28mm scale… where do I find 400,000 cheering sci-fi citizens in 28mm…? |

I've used Bretonian men at arms and old wizard figures with added bits to do civilians before. Something about long robes and 40k. |

Not included in the 5-vehicle pack are the "Imperial City Car Mk IX" and the "Genetic Cult Coven Car":
Add a couple of cool bikes:
You gotta allow Orks in the race since red wunz go faster. Bring in Orc Buggies, Truks, Traks and Bikes and you really got yourself a race. For alternate 40K-ish Ork vehicles check out Kromlech's webstore: bitsofwar.com The latest addition, the "Blitzkrieg 222" vehicle is a must-have and even comes with Bad Year tires:

As interesting and cool looking at some of those models are I have to wonder how the driver can even see to steer the vehicle with all the crap on the hood. Maybe they just have a heads up display or radar or something? Would like to see GW bring back Dark Future. You know you would buy it. |

Bretonnians… hmm… that's an idea, David, thanks. I was thinking of just repainting Imp Guard, figuring that army fatigues and worker's overalls are pretty much the same pattern, merely different colours. (or shades of manufactorum grey…) Kallman, I suspect the drivers are hard-wired into their vehicles, in a racing setting, otherwise some kind of interface connects them to cameras and other sensors. The windows are there to keep glass-producing hive worlds in business. ;) Probably not going to let the orcs or other races come and play, Fanatik, partly because I want to keep the rules simple (just imperial weapons and equipment) and partly because I like the idea of portraying a glimpse into the Imperium when there is peace, there is respite, and there isn't only war! What do the subjects of the Emperor do when their worlds aren't being ravaged by xenos horrors from the depths of space? They go to the Circus! :D |
