I hope everyone is having a good week.
Well I finally painted up some of the Star Blazers miniatures that I got in the mail last week. Check out my Blog for more pictures. Next up I have to work on the EDF Forces and making stats for the ships using Colonial Battlefleet.

Handsome force shown on the blog.

For those of us who don't follow it, do you have a favored rule set?

Doug

Who makes the miniatures?
Thanks!

Wild guess on my part, but I think they're Musashi Enterprises.

I keep thinking they closed shop, but appear to still be producing. Some of the figs use photo-etched parts!

Hi Doug,
Yes they are from Musashi Enterprises. Yes they do have some photo-etched parts, on some of the miniatures. I am not a fan of the photo-etched parts but these are the only Star Blazers miniatures out there. Yes I now there are plenty of models but they are not to scale. So I will do my best with the photo-etched parts and make more ships.

All: Thanks for the comments. I have been wanting to get these figures for a long time and I finally took the plunge. As far as rules I like Colonial Battlefleet and the Star's Reach expansion covers "Spinal Mounts" which would be used to represent the Wave Motion Gun. In the rules they call it the Apocalypse Cannon.

Have a good week!

I just finished up watching the reboot Space Battleship Yamato. Good stuff! I have some of the model kits on order, feeling inspired…

Mbrien1988 I really like your paint jobs I'm a HUGE fan of StarBlazers aka Space Battleship Yamato.

I have close to 500 of the StarBlazers minis from the 4 Races:

Earth Defense Fleet
Comet Empire
Gamilon(Gamilas Empire)
Dark Nebula Empire

I personally know the maker of these minis and got a chance to meet him face to face when he came to the San Francisco Bay Area many years ago.

I'm not a fan of photo-etched as well but I manage to put enough on the ships like Yamato and Andromeda for example so the ships look more or less correct.

And Musashi Enterprises is still coming out with new minis ships like the Arizona and Prince of Wales are recent examples.

The Yamato reboot is great and I'm waiting for the new 2nd season to come out.

Got a demo from him at a GenCon of the first ed, may even have been beta, Star Blazers Fleet Battle decades ago, or as I thought, buckets o' missiles.

I gather that's been toned down, a bit.

I'd be a fan of the photo-etch if I could get someone else to do the assembly. *woof*

I'm aware of Colonial Battlefleet and some buzz, but haven't been impressed enough to plop down the dinero. Do enjoy!

Michael,
What rules do you use for your forces? I would get the Star Blazers fleet battle system rules but the shipping to here in Sweden is almost as expensive as the rules and the data book.
Thanks

Mark

Very nice!

I was going to use Colonial Battlefleet for Star Blazers as well. Hopefully you will share your ship designs. :)

I am not sure if I will use A Sky Full of Ships or Starmada. Likely depends on how big my games are. I'm using the models from Hobby Link Japan.

Can anyone suggest a good book or site that breaks down the fleets/ships for each faction for Star Blazers? I have the EDF. But I am not sure about the Comet Empire or Gamillons.

Thanks.

Mark I use the StarBlazers rules for our game with some changes.

If you're interested I have an extra copy of the StarBlazers rules that I can sell you and the shipping cost for an envelope sent to Sweden costs about $15.00 USD for First Class International Mail.

I can sell you the book for $15.00 USD so plus Shipping it comes to $30.00 USD please let me know if it works for you.

The only problem with the book is that the cover is separate from the book contents but it's in pretty good shape.

The other thing I was thinking is that if you want to get the Data Book you could send me the money for it and then I can purchase it and send it to you by First Class International Mail.

Please email me and we can discuss it you can send me an email to yamamoto87@hotmail.com.

And John if you go to starblazersonline.com you'll see a list of what ships they have for the EDF,Comet,Gamilon and Dark Nebula Fleets.

This also has the NEW ships for the Fleets as well.

HI Michael!

Thank you for the offer but I will have to pass for right now. How do you like the rules compared to other sets of rules_

Thank you!
Mark

Captain Gideon06 Jul 2016 8:38 a.m. PST

Mark that's okay.

As for the rules themselves I do like them and they're a good flavor for the show like no other rules could do but I'm not so good at explaining rules however if you email me I can forward your email to a good friend of mine who could explain the rules much better than I ever could and could answer most questions you might have.

I can say that we had to make changes regarding Missile Offensive and Defensive phases to make it easier for play and to make it faster in terms of gameplay.

I've never used any other spaceship rules with StarBlazers minis other than these rules so I can't speak to that.

a good book or site that breaks down the fleets/ships for each faction for Star Blazers

Even if you don't use the rules, the Star Blazers Fleet Battle series of books(3?) seems fairly comprehensive.

They seem to be $20 USD apiece, though I got all three of mine on eBay, cheap. Otherwise, I'd probably have to chide Michael for not including his in a package of other books on the way to me. ;->=

I'm sure there are anime ref books covering same, but most are in Japanese, which leave them 'oh, the pretty pictures' for me.

Mark, and remember it's been a LONG time, but in spite of the sheer volume of missiles, and to some extent, because of, I thought the game felt rather close to the show.
