Would like to think these are finished but, two minutes before I took these pics the officer fell from his horse and lost his plume! Then I thought I would base them, but find I am out of Pollyfilla……. These are the Gringo40s Tartars, all the way from Lithuania. I can never resist fiddling and converting, but the three lancers are straight from the makers, other than the lances themselves. Much appreciated gift from Niels R a few years ago and never used! I wanted to show them on Polish style shabraques, so mostly used the Perry Guard lancer horses. The Gringo horses are magnificent beasts and I am keeping them for heavier cavalry esp British. References show several styles of saddlecloth and colours, but somehow these looked more "Polish" . Finally, the other "command" trio. The trooper uses a Mameluke sword arm, but is otherwise unchanged. I was solemnly assured we would not see a trumpeter or officer for some time. Out came the scalpel, heads were beheaded, superglue everywhere and Mamelukes became Tartars (sort of). Then Gringos release proper, much better figures (the officer in the later Colpack look as well)….weep. I had no idea about the trumpeter's saddlecloth. so chickened out as you see. Seriously, I have enjoyed working on these and almost feel a Krakus unit coming on. Wish the camera was kinder on the close ups of the lace though! Looks ghastly at this magnification….

nice brushwork, nicely blued officers sabre – nice colour controll – one question though, on galopping horses – the lance pennons would flutter – wouldn't they?? |

Fluttering pennants (sounds like I'm swearing)…never even thought of that. Absolutely right, but I have been wanting to use Niels' R lances for ages and this seemed a good chance. Can a trumpeter really trumpet on a galloping horse? Thanks all for the positive feedback. Would be interested in learning of other errors. Anxious to learn! I have found so many pictures of this tiny short lived unit. Its appearance seemed to evolve during its brief existence. I was tempted by the yellow shabraque with the red edging and, if I had had the later Gringos releases might have tried it. The proper officer is in the later Colpack, wears epaulettes and has tighter breeches. The trumpeter is much better than mine for painting detail on the laced waistcoat. Also impressed that the officer's horse is not just a Mameluke's recycled. The odd looking pistol holster (heavy cavalry style, on a light cavalry shabraque) is well documented

why is this in the discussion area rather than the products area? |

To be honest, Gallery would be ideal (they are there too) as these have been released for some time. Must confess I get the impression that Discussion is the first Forum folk go to and, like anyone, I want my postings at least noticed. The feedback is invaluable…esp where I have got it wrong on details of modelling or uniforms. Thing about "Products", these are modified Gringos figures and I did check with Ged before posting. There is a copyright issue and his trumpeter and officer release are better than my conversions. Important to stress that |

thanks for the attention to detail Liam in more ways then one…as a little known unit your passion is evident in the execution of your figure painting and conversions and deserves as much notice as possible…………….. regards Ged gringo40s.com gringo40s.blogspot.com |

I think a company of these would work really well as an addition to a unit of the Polish Lancers of the Guard. that is how they ended up and they do add even further colour to what I think is already one of the best uniforms of the Napoleonic Wars. I may well photograph them again with my Perry Lancers and inflict them on you, once more. But only in the Gallery…1968billsfan does have a point! Oh and the pennants. I have just remembered. There has been a very heavy shower of rain, followed by a sharp frost, so cold that they just froze….that was it…….. |
