This movie was mentioned a few years ago here on TMP. It is now available for free with English subtitles. It has been one of the top films in Japan.

I found the CGI battles very well done. They really made sure the planes were accurate. For example, the P-51s in the later battle are done in the colors of the actual Iwo Jima based 15th FG. The whole Battle of Midway action is really cool.

Well worth watching, and for far more than the excellent CGI.

I completely agree with you on the great plot. Apparently even PM Abe has endorsed the film. Although it is not without controversy, some left-wing groups feel that the film glorifies war. I am not sure how they got that from the film. It teaches the value of individual lives.

Loved the P-51 fight…though I just wonder how he didn't run out of ammo!
