I have a bunch of the 28mm modern Russians from the assault group link Are these truly modern or are they a bit dated? I need to decide if I want to order some of the empress modern Russians for an upcoming NATO vs. Russia in the Baltics. |

These are a bit dated IMHO, perfect for the Beslan siege era. Ministry of Internal Affairs (former MVD) and the Russian army are now equipped with more modern uniforms and gear:

Why do they wear masks? For warmth or is it some other reason? |

Both for warmth, and in some cases (Internal Affairs troops, etc.) to hide identity, just as you see with some western special forces units and SWAT teams. Regular Russian troops fighting in the warmer months would likely not have the masks. |

On the masks for warmth side, worth remembering the derivation of the name 'balaclava' as in balaclava helmet. |
